I'm 17 years old and I've been having problems since I first started my period. My body tends to skip my period for three or four months and then I'd bleed for three or four months. During my very long periods I have extremely large blood clots (if thats what they are). My doctor eventually perscribed birth control pills. I took those for about two years and took them correctly. After a while I decided to stop those pills for a while so I wouldn't damage my reproductive system. Once I did that, my period started up the same way it was before. I don't want my body to be dependent on birth control pills just to have a regular period. Any suggestions on other ways to solve my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

First and foremost you are not screwing up your reproductive system, there's a reason why your on birth control is to control the clots and the heavy bleed.

Without it it's like suffering from a major bleed, your body is never dependant on things like this, its just helping it to control the amount your cervix rids its self from the amount of blood that is shedded each month.

I was on birth control pills past the age of 35 yrs, I didn't smoke and I stopped taking them when I got to be 39 yrs old. Like you I too wanted to see if my periods would come back, but in a lighter stage. Mine were heavy with blood clots and I'd soak a pad in a matter of 10 minutes. So my doctor put me on pills and I had anywhere from medium to light and after being on them for more than 10 yrs decided to stop and when I did, well I did see some period here and there, but nothing regular and now that I'm 45 yrs old my sister tells me I should be happy I don't get them anymore. Ok so I haven't had any period for roughly 2 yrs and low and behold one day it came back, I'm thinking what brought this on, I'm stressed, don't eat right and yet it showed up.

I was pregnant in 1995 but I lost the baby, so don't think my problems are your problems, you will have a baby someday when your old enough and as for the pills they couldn't hurt a fly, just remember without them YES you could get pregnant if your not protected on both ends.

And never stop anything without checking with your Doctor first.

Be thankful there is something out there that can control these clots, untill your older and more mature bodywise will this ever completely stop from being in excess of too much bleeding perse, yes and no is your answer and if your still worried then talk to your doctor he/she is the best one who knows these answers.

Hope this helps you . . . ;-)

OMG! I thought I was the only person like this. I am 21 years old and I have been having the same problem since I started my period at age 12. I bleed for like 4 months at a time then I would stop for about 3-5 months. I have been to the doctor numerous of times and all they do is prescribe birth control. That was fine when I was younger but now I'm older and married and want to have children. But, since my body is not regulated I haven't been able to get pregnant. It really saddens me. I have been bleeding for so long and having big blood clots. It makes me feel better to know I'm not going through it alone, but I wish it was something we could do to stop it.

I have almost the same thing! I'm 18 and my periods have alway been irregular. I have not been to the GYN yet, but I think after reading your posts i will go and hopefully get this issue resolved because its extremely frustrating! I am just terrified that I'll be told I won't be able to have children.

Do not worry about it. You have some solutions. One of my friends also had same problem. But her doctor said that she would get marry as soon as possible and have a baby. She got her degree at 25yrs of age and then got married. Till she marry she got some pills which is given by doctor. Now she has cute baby. Doctors always told her not to wait till get old like 30yrs for a baby. I think this happens because of   hormonal imbalance. Now get pregnant is not impossible. You must have good experienced specialized doctor's advice.

Be positive, U will have a good life same as others. :-)
