Researchers developed new test that can very accurately detect breast cancer just from couple strands of hair and this represents breakthrough in breast cancer treatment. This test is called Fermiscan and it’s able to detect breast cancer when it’s still in early stage and when it’s easiest to treat. Experts announced that this test can detect breast cancer from 20 strands of hair , length about 2.5 cm.

Statistics showed that one out of five cases of breast cancer in women under 50 years of age is difficult to screen with mammography and this test can also help by identifying tumors surfacing in the three-year gap between the breast X-rays or mammograms given to the women over 50 years of age.

Researchers explained that when a normal hair is put under a microscope it appears as series of arcs and women who have breast cancer have a distinctive ring superimposed on to these arcs. Experts say that this test will be in sale in next couple of months.

Is this now available?? Do you know if it is covered by insurance? Is it easy to find a place to have this test done? How long does it take to get the results? Thank you in advance
