No Menstrual Cycle for about 2 years...

Hi. I'm new here. This is actually my first post :D But, I have not had a menstrual cylce for two years now. I first got my period when I was 12. I'm now 19 years old, and a heroin addict. I have no health insurance, but I'm wondering if my drug problem is the reason I don't have a period anymore. I want to get clean horribly, but like I said, I have no insurance, and cannot find anyone with a steady supply of methadone or suboxone. If the drugs are the problem, will I get my cycle back after I get clean? I want so badly to grow up and have a family someday. I know its not possible now, with the drugs, but I'd like to think that I haven't screwed up one of the only reasons I have to get clean.

Hi,

I'm sorry you found yourself in the situation where you can't get help to get off the heroin now that you desperately want to. How long have you been addicted? From what I've seen, unfortunately it was a very close friend ever since elementary school, the most obvious thing that heroin addiction does to you is major weight loss. You simply aren't getting all the nutrients your body needs to function, so when your weight drops below certain limit, periods definitely can stop. It's almost always the case with anorexic women and girls. But, you're still young and if you manage to kick that off and get your health back on track, I think your period will also come back.

I've been addicted for three years now. I am tiny. (5 feet and about 92lbs) I've always been a small person though. The most I've ever weighed was about 110lbs when I was about 13. I went through a period of depression, and lost a lot of weight before I started on the drugs. I've never been able to gain anything back. Weight may be my issue, and maybe I can't seem to gain a pound because of my drug use. I don't know. Thank you for your help though. I am determined to get help one way or another, so hopefully when I kick, I will get it back :D
