My paternal grandmother was diabetic and had heart disease, my father is diabetic. I am not diabetic, however, I am heavier than I would like to be. I do not know at what point your body's insulin stops working on it's own, but I am roughly 5'7" and 185. I was run over by a bicycle last summer and have been virtual inable to exercise adequately or even to the level I did before because of constant pain in my legs and joints. I am 29 years old, never been pregnant. My maternal grandmother had cervical cancer post-menopausal, but there have been no other instances of cancer that we know of. I am lactose intollerant and have had asthma for multiple years. I do not smoke, drink very infrequently, and try to eat as healthily as possible.

The symptoms I am having lately have been ongoing for multiple weeks, but have not gotten so bad that I felt I needed to call a doctor. I am in a long-term commited relationship, and I suppose, there's always a possibilty of pregnancy, but I highly doubt it.

Anyway, I am having shortness of breath, even when just walking a block or two. It feels like there is a sharp pain in my ribcage when this happens. I have been exhausted - and it hits me worst in the middle of the day. I have been very irritable, and I am normally quite laid back. I have been dizzy. I could be sitting, standing, walking, lying down - it doesn't matter - I will get dizzy. It has nothing to do with blood sugar or motion. I just get dizzy and even when sitting in a chair I often feel like I'm going to slump over. It will last a few moments and go away. I have had light vertigo for years, but the frequency has increased in the last month or two. And finally, I am craving milk. I can't get enough. I'm lactose intollerant and normally never even go near milk or dairy b/c it destroys my intestines and is a sure fire way to ruin the rest of my day. But lately, I can't get enough of it and it's not making me sick. I have been drinking soymilk and ricemilk for years, taking lactaid with any cheese or dairy I do eat, but over the last three weeks or so, I have personally gone through almost 2 gallons of regular 2% milk. I cannot explain this. But it's freakin' me out!

Any information or recommendations you can give me would be fantastic. I do not have much time to make doctors appointments, especially if I don't know what I should be asking about. I would just like to be pointed in the right direction. What should I be concerned about - if anything? What should I ask? Does this seem, at all, unusual or is it an age-bracket thing?
