My boyfriend had gotten sick with stript throat. After given Penicillin, along with Tylanol, Sudafed and a nasal spray, he started toexperience a slight numbness in his feet, strongest at the toes. A few days went by and nothing changed, so he went back to the doctor. They said it was a rare allergic reaction to the pennicillin. They gave him Benadril and that's it. He stopped taking the Penicillin. The next day the numbness had spread to his fingers and mouth. He was weak and tired. We decided to go to the ER. They ran tests and we talked to about 4 different doctors. Tests were fine and still no idea what this is. Since then, about 3 days, the numbness has spread, he has great muscle weakness, heavy breathing, and nasuea. Any ideas of what it could be? He has also had a high heart rate and blood pressure. Any possible relations?

I recently had a similair experience. I am a registered nurse working at a local hospital. I came down with an upper resp. infection (nothing severe) I also was under quite a bit of stress due to long hrs at wk etc. One day at work I had severe ascending weakness, without warning went as limp as a ragdoll. After numerous tests, spinal tap, MRI etc I was diagnosed with Guillian Barre Syndrome. This is usually diagnosed after having resp. infection, strep. If your physician is unwilling or unable to give you a diagnosis you should have hime refer you to someone who can. Hope this helps. Good luck.
