Hi Gals im no Doctor, Im 23 my husband and I are expecting our first child everything im about to write is only what I am experiencing. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and I have been sick with severe morning sickness, ie vomitting and nausea, since I was 4 weeks pregnant "yeah very early". I vomitted more than 5 times daily (bile and blood) and the nausea just did not stop, i had lost 4 kilograms every week since the sickness started. It was dreadful to have a goodnights sleep as I would wake up to my dizziness 3-4 times a night. Not being able to handle it anymore, I finally surrendered to the hospital ER. Unfortunately my mother was not working in the Triage that night so I had to wait it out like everyone else for a doc, the nurse said to me everything was normal she went through the same thing blah blah, so I continued to wait patiently although it felt as if i was going to die. After what seemed like forever the Doc came and attended to me...to his surprise I was actually more ill than I had looked and he got very upset at the nurses for not admitting me straight away. Nehow long story short they gave me Ondasetron 4ml via my fluid drip. At the time it did not work wonders so he requested another 4ml. To my surprise I was able to eat half a sandwich and orange juice that night. EventuallyI had to go back home and my local GP had to prescribe the meds (ondasetron) for me, however she expresses concerns about prescribing it for me. Nehow 5 days later I had them picked up coz we had to order them in and I eventually got the Ondasetron 8mg, yet in the back of my mind I was worried about what my GP had said to me previously. So I broke every tablet that I needed in 3rds and took only 1 when needed which was only 1 a day, however it was directed that I take 1 whole tablet (8mg) 3 times daily. Just that small bit I took worked wonders. So ladies If you are worried make sure when considering the use of ondasetron it will benifit your child not yourself first. If you have it prescribed take only min amounts first and then work your way up in mg if needed...Keep in mind they are not antibiotics so you do not need them all the time everytime at the same time. I hope I've helped you gals out...

Like many of you, I had absolutely terrible morning sickness for approx 2 weeks before I finally was able to schedule an appointment to see my OB/GYN to "confirm" my pregnancy (I found out I was preggo week 5 and saw him mid-week 6) . I wasn't able to keep anything down & the mere thought of crackers or water make the situation worse. I tried everything until my Dr. prescribed me Ondanesetron 8mg. At first it was phenomenal! I was eating everything and anything (trying to make up for lost time!) but realized that it made me SEVERELY constipated. So, instead of taking the entire 8mg dose, I cut them in half and took 4mg as needed in addition to adding more fiber to my diet. I'm now almost 4 months & still getting those bouts of nausea & vomiting and have been cutting back on the medication (so much for the wonderful 2nd trimester!). I went from taking it every day to maybe every 2-3 days. It helps significantly, but just make sure you take it at the initial onset of the nausea. If you wait too long, you might take it then end up feeding it to the toilet not long after kinda negating taking it in the first place. Also make sure you get exercise, drink plenty of fluids and eating some complex carbs. I have found that to work wonders in aiding my poor tummy. Good luck! :)

I am 10 weeks pregnant and also had morning sickness during the whole day every day since the 6th week. I was vomiting every day 3 times per day and what I vomited at the end was very acid. Something that was for sure causing damages to my throat and who knows what else. it was like vomiting vinegar. If I tried to drink some water after washing my mouth with listerine and brushing my teeth, I would vomit again withing the next 5 minutes and the water that I just drank was acid like vinegar again! I felt hopeless and after a long time trying to conceive (which wasn't easy for us and it took us a couple of years) I was starting to wonder if I really wanted all this in my life... I was sad that I was not happy like at the beginning with my pregnancy and was afraid my baby was feeling all of those contradictory emotions that I was experiencing and if that could affect the baby. I lost weight and was worried that the baby was not getting all the nutrients needed. I went to the doctor and she prescribed ONDASETRON 8mg every 8 hours but I have only taken 2 pills every 24 hours and after reading all this messages I will evaluate how good I can feel if I take the pills less often or a smaller doze (by cutting the pills in half)... but let me tell you this: This is a MIRACLE that I can now smell food, see food, eat food and feel hungry and decide what to eat and enjoy it... that definitively has to be helpful for the baby in first place and the fact that I am happy again is going to allow me to finally make a better and loving connection with my baby and provide what they need.

Every woman I know who has taken Zofran throughout pregnancy has had a perfectly well baby. A "class B" drug is in the same class as Tylenol, and is considered very safe. (Very few drugs are "class A", so class B is very good). Don't scare yourself searching the internet for problems with it; trust your doc. The Internet can provide you with a scare on ANY thing you take during pregnancy! Many docs even feel comfortable giving Zofran to children, even though it's not approved for them, that's how safe they feel it is. I cannot find one single documented case of a problem with the baby as a result of the mom taking Zofran, and it is very commonly prescribed during pregnancy nowadays. All these things put my mind at ease about taking it myself, as I have very bad morning sickness. Rest assured; it is not harmful. Not only that, it can be extremely beneficial, as it allows you to eat and drink the way you'd never be able to without it, which is good for both you and your baby.

Hello ladies I'm 24 and a little over 8 weeks.  Like many of the posts I've read I've had serve morning sickness 24 hours a day, to the point where I felt I couldn't go on anymore.  I had to quit my job I've been pretty much bedridden (my poor boyfriend) anywho I've finally caved and went to the doctor (hospitals scare me and I don't even take aspirin when I have a headache) my ob/gyn gave me ondansetron through an iv drip and some to take home.  It has saved me.  I can finally eat again and function properly. I was scared about any harm that it might cause my baby but doing some internet reading has eased my mind.  I highly recommend Zofran (I'm taking 4mg and that dosage seems to work great for me) for any woman with horrible morning sickness.

I had posted about 4 months ago about taking the Zofran & how it helped. I'm not sure if anyone else had this issue, but after about a month of being on the medication my nausea & vomiting got so bad that every time I took the Zofran, it would almost guarantee that I was going to vomit within the half hour. Because I'm not a real big believer in medication (I was desperate with the Zofran) & think that there is always a more natural, holistic way to treat something, I opted for acupuncture. It was interesting at first, but after 3 rounds, I was sold! Have not had a bout of nausea or vomiting since I completed those 3 rounds of acupuncture. :)  Just wanted to let those of you who aren't too into medication, that there ARE alternative medicines that will help just as much (if not more!) :)  GOOD LUCK!!!

my first pregnancy i had hyperemesis gravardarim, suffered for 7 months with little to no help and on drips in and out of hospital. i used maxalon excessively and have become almost immune to the effects, they havent worked at all with this pregnancy.  this time my drs have prescribed ondanstron, zofran. it is amazing!! expensive though, i am paying between $5 and $8 per pill(tasmania, australia) with no concessions- private health rebates. but i really think if the mother is so ill she cant function then this is worth any money, it has helped me greatly and i am taking only  one per day it usually carries me untill 6 pm when i start to feel yuk again. if the dr says its safe then thats good enough for me

i'm sorry for your son's situation, but glad it doesn't slow him down! however, i think its going a bit far to imply that Bendectin is what caused your son's condition, especially considering your doctors 'can't explain it' meaning that they probably don't attribute the blindness to Bendectin. Things happen that are not always in our control and sometimes its not anything anyone has done.

i am only writing this to counterbalance the fear-mongering you are spouting.....when this isn't even *about* BENDECTIN.....

I am in my 11th week with baby number 4 (all previous pregnancies I have had morning sickness, all day - up till around 13 weeks). Although, I had the sickness with the last pregnancies, I never took anything to stop it, other than ginger based products, which had little effect. This time I had endured constant dry reaching, nausea and vomiting for 5 weeks and had lost a lot of weight and was feeling extremely weak. Was also dehydrated and had very low blood pressure, so my doctor prescribed Ondansetron. Hesitantly, I took it (as I have always been very mindful of the risks in taking medications during pregnancy) - I IMMEDIATELY felt relief from the nausea and have not vomited or dry-reached since. I have limited myself to only taking it every second day and that seems to be enough to get me through. I would like to get off it as soon as possible, as the risks still frighten me - but having three other children - 4 and under to care for this time around - Ondansetron has just been a God-send!

I was in the same boat and was prescribed Ondansetron yesterday. I took my first pill this morning and felt instant relief (within 10 mins I was human). I'd certainly seek guidance from your doctor first but had I not been prescribed this medication I don't know how I would have survived and stayed healthy.

ondansetron is ok to take while pregnant, but you need to contact your health care provider before doing so just because everyone and every thing is different on a persons body. my ob dr prescribed me this along with tylenol 3 for a high increase in hormonal migraines.

I've been using odansetron since I was about 8weeks I'm now 17weeks and still taking it. It has helped so that I am keeping some food down but I am still occasionally being sick. I'm just wondering when I will be able to stop taking it? Before I went on they did try 4 other different medications.
