Hi there, I can tell you that osteoporosis affects almost all postmenopausal women. It happens because of decreasing estrogen level. Therapy is based on hormone supplements, calcium, biophosphonates. I am older than your mother and have osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is bone disease in which the risk of fracture is high. Bones become thinner and more porous. I was very depressively too; it was because losing my estrogen.
