My elder sister has problem with asthma. Her doctor recommended her Oxitropium on the last visit she has done. As I know what kind of problems she’s got if there is no appropriate medicine, I am a little bit worry. Is it possible that this new drug with suit her? She needs good medicine to open her airways and assist her breathing, so I wonder if Oxitropium is good enough.

Oxitropium is type of medicine that is known as an antimuscarinic bronchodilatator. It works by blocking receptors called muscarinic receptors, which are found in muscles around airways in the lungs. Normal stimulation of these receptors came from acetylocholine and this causes the muscle in airways to contract. Problem with asthma and bronchitis is that those receptors are over stimulated. Oxitropium blocks these receptors by stopping the action of acetylcholine and allows the airways to open. This makes it easier to breathe, that’s why this drug is used to keep the airways opened. Oxitropium is used with inhaler device what allows it to act directly in the lungs where it is needed most. Also it is used for reducing the potential amount absorbed into the blood through the lungs is lower than if it is taken by mouth. Possible side effects affect individual people in different ways. Some of side effects that can occur are headache, nausea, cough, throat irritation, unpleasant taste, etc.
