I am a 26 yr old male, with ankylosing spondylitis, have monthly cases of iritis, and chronic pain in lower back, joints etc..
I was originally put on 2x 10 mg oxycontin and 3x oxycocet daily for pain, which worked better than anything previously :-)
As i was very young when i was diagnosed with this disease, my family was very invlved with my medical situation, and after doing some research on the oxycodone, and reading all of the media stories about abuse and crime surrounding it, i was basically scared into switching to methadone ( i dont blame my family at all, as they were just looking out for my best interests), methadone was suggested by my family dr. as it was said there would be withdrawls from the oxycodone and it would work well as a painkiller as well as negate any w/d's. Well i made it up to about 80 mg of methadone before the pain was brought to a tolerable state, but i had found that i had gained about 40-50 lbs, was extremly tired all the time, would fall asleep everywhere. So ive started to ween myself off of the methadone over the last year , and am now down to 10 mg's a day, and was thinking of just going back to what worked before, the 10 mg oxycontin, not sure if the ir' oxycocet would be necessary off the bat, and wanted to get some thoughts on this, came across this forum while searching for some ideas on this, seemed to be some decent , well thought answeres here. Any input would be greatly appreciated :-)
sry for the huge wall of text, wanted to give a decent history :-)

Hi honey! The Oxy family are FANTASTIC at their job - of killing pain - BUT like most families they can be dysfunctional!!!! ;-) XD IF you can take the least amount of Oxy to take away your pain, this will be your best option! Methadone is also addictive - it is just like a nicotine patch used for people addicted to cigs! And Methadone isn't usually used for pain relief, because you need more of it and IF you become addicted to it, what can you go on?!!!!
So my advice to you is this, try a small amount of Oxycontin or Oxycocet - which ever is best for your pain! And start off small, and just increase it slowly and in tiny amounts till you get to that level of pain relief - instead of becoming high! Because THAT is the addictive part, the getting high! When I was addicted to it, it wasn't for the pain anymore, it was to take it for any stressful situation! I called it my "happy pill" All was right with the world - I thought - as long as I had it! If you are COMPLETELY aware of any signs of that you might start having a problem with it, then it's time to get off it! BUT if you start slowly and in small quantities you should be totally fine honey!
Also has your doctor mentioned to you about Tramacet? This REALLY works for me! And it isn't addictive!
Cyber hugs to you! And I wish you nothing but HEALTH and a pain free future! Good luck and health honey!
