This could be a yeast infection that has settled in the urethra and/or bladder. If the whole vagina is not inflamed, doctors may not realize that it is yeast, as was the case with me. Also, it took a combination of diflucan and clomitrazole to get it under control. I did not respond to diflucan alone. I hope this helps someone.

Oh my gosh, I'm so happy I've found this board... I've had IC since I was 16, I'm now 23. I had a string of terrible UTI's when I was a teenager that ultimately gave me this disease. Ive been to numerous docs who tell me "no, you dont have a UTI" and send me on my way... and have tried all of the diets out there in desperation for relief. I'm having a flare now after being in remission for 2 years.(which is convenient because we leave for vacation TOMORROW) I have cut out chocolate, coffee, caffeine, soda, citrus, peanut butter, red dye, most artificial sweetners and a few other things and it helped me tremendously. I'll still get a flare when my hormones are wacky, which is usually around ovulation and before my period. I only get flares 2-3 times per year, but when I've got them they rear their ugly head. I spent months and months terrified that nobody could help me and that nobody else had this. I'm so sorry ladies. I am here for you

My pain started in October, with a uti that turned into pylo and was hospitalized for days. After that I would feel another uti coming on and take more antibiotics. No longer than a week later I would be back at the dr with pain. I've seen a urologist who dilated my urethra. Since ive had more UTI's and even without an infection I'm still in complete discomfort. Drinking water does help on some days. I recently found out I was pregnant and since then no one wants to help with fear of hurting the baby. A couple of days ago I was put in the hospital after throwing a fit and demanding help. They thought my bladder wasn't emptying, and a uti showed up only when doing a straight catheter. They also found that I had urethritis. I've been on antibiotics for almost a week for the urethritis and received IV antibiotics in the hospital and I'm still in paid. Since October I have had 17 UTI's and no one can figure out why or why I am still in pain.

You all sound like me. Pain following a UTI. You all have bacteria that has become embedded in your bladder and covered by biofilm. There is currently only one person treating for this at the moment and his NHS clinic in Whittington hospital has been shut down.

If you pain follows after a UTI try Dr Anderson at focus clinic. It's not NHS but she has experience

Have same problems, but I know what might be causing my problem... exposure to mold and fungus. My doctor has done the scripts and tests to no avail then I had mentioned that my window AC unit had been leaking on a couch, when I moved it, it had all different colors of mold which is fungi. I am now being put on antifungal meds and am praying it helps.

Hi there,
Had the same problem as your over ten years. Finally it was a nephroptosis - kidney that fell out of place and pressed the upper urether. Look it up on google and see your urologist to have a look.

Take care and i hope this helps.

Hi!

I suffered from exactly the same thing for 2 1/2 years. I had thought initially maybe it was an STD or something but did a test that came back totally clear. After 18 months I went to see a doctor thinking maybe it was recurrent UTIs (I was constantly getting fevers/chills with my symptoms) and my urine culture was completely negative! I was sent for an ultrasound that was totally clear too and still no answers!

I'm a medical student so I'm pretty clued up about all the things it could be but my symptoms didn't fit any of them (my pain was relieved when I peed and when I had sex, which actually dampened down the symptoms for a couple of days... which didn't make any sense!!). I assumed it must be IC since my STD test from a couple of months after it all started had been negative, and I wasn't having pain during sex or irregular bleeding (so I ruled out Chlamydia and PID) and since it apparently couldn't be a UTI.

I then caught a chest infection a few months back and my symptoms went crazy, I've never had pain so bad as that!! I was put on antibiotics for the chest infection and hey ho, now the pain has completely gone even though they're not antibiotics indicated for any of the possible diagnoses... Three months later and no symptoms. I honestly can't explain it (neither can the internet or medical textbooks it seems!).

I hope you find a resolution to your problem! I know how rough it is to have it and wish I could offer more advice on how mine seemed to sort itself out!!
