Hi! The most common cause of painful bowel movements is constipation. You sou can probably solve this if you change your eating habits. Passing hard stools can be painful. You can also take some senna tea for a start, but be careful with this tea, because it's quite strong :-) I always prefer herbal remedies when it comes to constipation. Hard stools can also cause anal fissure and other problems so you should take seriously this constipation problem. Take care.

Your sphincter muscle is what relaxes when you have a bowel movement. When you get hemorrhoids it is from a vein that is close to the surface. Sometimes you may get a small amount of blood, sometimes it is just painful. when the blood vessel bleeds, it is usually when they resort to surgery.
There are mild laxatives and stool softeners available, you may try drinking more water, few people drink as much as is recommended. If your dehydrated your stool can become very hard, sometimes small pieces collect and it is painful or impossible to have bowel movement. That is when you use an enema, Or use a hot water bottle and put warm water and the attachment for douching. either on the toilet or in the shower. It may take several times bit the water will break it up and the water comes out , usually with the stool. If you have this happen often, before you strain, use the hot water bottle. Even use it once in awhile won't hurt, keeping your colon cleaned out should you have less problems. Have had it happen, it is painful, and feels so much better when you help it out with water.
