I am a 29 year old female who is currently 12 weeks pregnant with my first child.

I had Polyarteritis as a child (diagnosed aged 11. have had no check ups since approx age 15 as all was fine).

I have recently had unexplained chest pains & trouble breathing. The doctor told me it was NOT an infection of my chest & sent me away with antibiotics (which I have not taken).

Rest appears to be easing the pains, but they have not gone. I have had them for approximately 3 weeks now.

I would be interested in knowing if Polyarteritis Nadosa can reoccur many years down the line? And if any PAN sufferers have gone on to have any problems in pregnancy!

Thanks.

My wife was diagnosed with Polyarteritis Nodosa when she was 19. We were married when she was 23 and the doctors at that time suggested that she not get pregnant. The opinion was based on the fact that not much is known about the disease and that they did not know what would happen if she were to get pregnant.

5 years later, we have a beautiful adopted son who is now almost 2. We have often wondered what were to happen if she were to get pregnant but until we know more, the risks just seem too great. She has been symptom free for 8 or 9 years and has hand nothing wrong with her during that time. I would like to see how your pregnancy turned out.

Hi Jordan,

I have only just seen this - to be honest, I'm not sure what prompted me to look here again, but I am glad I did.

I went on to have a beautiful, healthy baby girl in December 2007. She's now almost two. She is utterly amazing & very healthy!

I wish you, your wife & your son all the best. & I hope your wife stays free of PAN.

best wishes,

I was diagnosed with cutaneous PAN in 2013 just as my husband and I had decided to start a family. I was 30. It's now two years later and I am finally in remission. We are going to try again but I must admit I am scared. There is just 15 reported cases of women pregnant with PAN - I read that in a medical journal. It says that if you can stay in remission throughout the pregnancy then all should be normal. If not, it's pretty bad outcome for both mother and baby. I don't think I will ever be used to having this c**p complicating my life but I'm going for it anyway. If there's one thing I've learned from my disease is that life's too short. Hopefully there will be someone holding my hand somewhere.

I am 33 years old and have been receiving treatment for PAN for a year and a half. I have been hoping and praying that once I am in remission that we can try to have a baby of our own. Would love to hear how your pregnancies went!
