Omg guest....I am three weeks post op and I was told the same thing fro the same symptoms ...I was petrified as 1 week post op I actually go stick at the hospital because of my brain fog and it threw me into a complete panic attack. Dr. Parrack said that my thyroid may have had an inflammatory reaction to surgery and felt it was temporary ...he put me on a beta blocker and it helped...I'm feeling better than I was but not completely well. I also have a pain from where my scar is going down into my chest like a strained muscle ..it burns...

I am 5 months postoperative from NPC. I had 2 adenomas and a thyroid nodule removed. It was rough for a few months for sure and I never thought I would get past the anxiety and panic. I will say it has subsided greatly and I'm hopeful that I will be even better at 6 mos. I never expected to feel as I did but I guess the thyroid was disrupted. My TSH is now better than it was before surgery and all bloodwork is good. I didn't sleep for 3 months but even that has improved greatly. Hang in there it does get better.

I had my surgery on May 17, 2017 one large adenoma was removed. For the first 3 months I felt awesome, like some miracle had occurred...I was cured!! Boy was I wrong. The bottom fell out and I can't seem to get any help from the doctors. I'm told that my numbers are normal and my doctor has referred me for a brain MRI to rule out MS because I'm in so much pain. I've tried an endo who basically put me on vitamin D and calcium supplements (since my surgeon told me that was not necessary). My calcium is slightly low, but lot low enough to make me feel this bad. I feel like I'm 90, no energy, major brain fog, pain in my arms and feet, feeling faint all the time. I also have Hashimotos thyroiditis which I'm told by 3 doctors that I can't do anything about. I am also in meopause so at this point I don't even know what symptoms are from what but I do know I can't function like this and it's making me crazy. I've gone to the emergency room only to be told that "I'm hyperventilating" and maybe I'm depressed. Who wouldn't be depressed feeling this bad on a daily basis when you're told nobody can do anything for you?? I've googled and googled wondering if this is all related to the surgery. After alot of reading I believe it is..but the doctors don't want to tell you.

Wow...I feel better reading about everyone’s post op issues....I’m 5 wks post op 3.5 glands removed due to hyperplasia....suffering from muscle twitches in back and legs and arms...heart palpitations (had before surgery too) and nightly leg aches that only respond to heat! I feel awful and have my appointment coming up this week with Endo....could it all be to my body adjusting to normal calcium levels....I have had magnesium on the lower side all along.

My surgery in Tampa was Sept 2016 and had one adenoma removed. Apparently I’d had it for a number of years. Repeat stones eventually led to the actual diagnosis (although doctors had basically ignored my other symptoms). On a side note, prior to my actual diagnosis, I was seen by a renal specialist who said I had a genetic disorder. He thought we needed to watch my lab numbers but he wasn’t worried.
Since the surgery I’ve had constant tingling, aching and numbness in my shoulders, hands and feet. Weight gain. Exhaustion. Foggy brain. I retired in late 2017 bc I was embarrassed by my cognitive issues. And for too many days it was difficult to drag myself out of bed.
My regular doctor ref me to an endocrinologist last year bc of symptoms but they said my normal lab numbers didn’t warrant a visit. Just a few months ago my reg lab work showed that the PTH was elevated, so my hormone therapy doc wants me back for another lab check in the fall.
I see posts where people say they feel wonderful after surgery. I’m so frustrated by how my recovery is going. I try to hide my symptoms from family and it’s becoming more difficult. Is there anyone having the same issues and what path have you taken to improve your health?

It is interesting reading all your stories....I too am almost 3 months out of parathyroid surgery and am experiencing a generalized anxiety on a daily basis... which I NEVER had before. All my lab/blood scores are "very good". Strange that there are so many people here experiencing the same feelings but the 3 doctors I spoke to (primary, endocrinologist, and surgeon) all seem to act like they are baffled about the anxiety/depression???? If it is this common as I see from this blog.. they should be aware of it. I think they can't give answers as to what to do so they don't mention it.

Going through same thing.. anxiety/depression.... started about 2 weeks after surgery. I really wish Doctors would discuss this prior to surgery. They still act like this is rare and not common, but as I read different blogs I see it is NOT uncommon. Let me know if you find anything that really works for you.

Hello bristow… I completely understand. After my parathyroidectomy I felt fine and my tests are normal... but there is a terrible underlying anxiety and panic. No one mentions this possible reaction prior to surgery and doctors all seem to act like it is something odd... but based on my own quest on blogs like this I see it is not "strange" to have the anxiety and panic. More research has to be done in this area.

I had a parathyroidectomy and two glands with adenomas were removed. The incision was 3 inches. It is now more than two weeks and I still have significant swelling. How long will this swelling last?

I am 42 year old female. I had one parathyroid removed due to PHT. For two weeks it was blissful, full of energy, no more brain fog, but 3 weeks later I started to have anxiety, it would come and go, my general doc has no idea what I am talking about and says my body is adjusting after the surgery, my endo looks at me like I am crazy and has no answers for me. All my lab work is normal. I am worried this will not end, some days I dont have anxiety at all, some days my stomach hurts so bad from it. I have no bone pain or symptoms other than the anxiety. I can still sleep good at night though, actually even better than before. Not sure how long this will last but I am so worried.
