Hi what you're desribing sounds alot like what happened to be but when I got an MRI to see things better it showed my top left screw was actually backing out causing me sharp pain in my upper back and then my last two screws in my fusion actually we're loose causing severe hip pain. I just had surgery and it seems to be all corrected now. Hope that helped

I just had a second operation last week to take hardware out and replace it where it didn't fuse the first time. I was terrified about having it but all the pain I was having before , severe hip pain, severe back pain, nerve damage in my arm has all seemed to go away. Now healing again is hard but I'm moving and doing so much better than my first surgery. Hope this helped

I had scoliosis surgery 40 years ago. I just started having horrible lower back pain. The pain is so bad I can barely pick up my feet to walk. If I'm sitting or laying down and I get up it's unbearable pain. I have the Harrington rod has anyone had similar symptoms? After so many years and it just started out of the blue could my rod be broken?

I would certainly check. I was apparently lucky not to have the rods. They say that those with them have much more trouble down the line.

I have had the exact same experience. Word for word. 4 years ago, I exercise and get massages and everything. I've recently been looking into regenexx, hope it goes somewhere. Apparently they are finding out that spinal fusion only complicates things even more for most. Sucks. And I feel so alone. Doctors play dumb and theres not many people out there in my world at least who can relate or know anything about my experience! Plus, as I'm sure you know, the stress of that only worsens the pain.

what would you suggest for nearly full fusion?

I know this is a while later, but NO. It is NOT worth it. Look into regenexx.

I also had my surgery four years ago and have a similar pain and visited my doctor, he recommended exercise as well, it only minimized my discomfort, after another visit he recommended having my rods removed since they have already served their purpose.

My cousin did. She had Rods had them removed, had a halo and a brace.... she passed a few years go.
I also have rods, I'm dealing with pains that make me not want to move.

Hey! I loved this response! Can I pick your brain on what stretches and workouts you find most helpful??!!

Would you be interested in connecting with my sister (who has a similar background to you and is wanting to connect with people who live with the rods in their backs)?

The rods can be removed. After about a year the rods don't even need to be in there because your spine fuses in the straight position. Taking them out isn't common because it's another surgery that isn't really necessary.

For myself I had surgery done at age 13, for about 12 yrs now. After having 2 of my kids it did alot to my body. I know how you feel. I first went to a chiropractor and did treatment for 15 days for my neck and lower back. It helped a bit but not enough where my chronic neck pain and lower back pain never went away. I am now doing acupuncture. It's better then always taking meds to relieve the pain. I've done only 2 days of treatment and I feel so much better. My muscles I feel are more relaxed and not so ache. Everyone is different and the way we perceive and feel it is different as well. I hope you find what you need.
