After a tonsillectomy children usually experience severe throat pain. Doctors suggest giving Tylenol or some other strong pain killer. The duration of pain varies for example my sister’s boy experienced this pain a lot longer than it is normal. It should range from several days to as long as 10 days but not more than that. Doctors also mentioned that the sooner her son is eating and back to regular activities the quicker the pain will be gone. Chewing gum or gummy bears also helps with the pain which is great considering how many children love candies and sweet.
He also had bleeding after the surgery. They have told us that it usually occurs in 1-2% of children after a tonsillectomy. This most often occurs 5-8 days after the surgery and the cause of this is falling off of the scab or white patch that has formed in the back of the throat.
