Hey there,
Post tubal ligation syndrome is not as innocence as your doctor might describe it. Post tubal ligation syndrome is linked to castrative menopause, ovarian isolation, which means they become non-functional, hormone shock, like hot flashes, depresion and for example lost of sex drive, PMS, misplacement of female organs, bone loss and osteoporosis (common with menopause), severe hormone imbalance, increased risk of heart disease, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endrometriosis and some other not less frightful facts... Some frightful facts!!!
These are some facts, which are (most usual) not brought to women before sterilization! In third world countries women die because of it!!!

I had my tubes tied over a year ago and ever since I've had nothing but pain and frustration. Intercourse is extremely painful and I usually bleed very heavilly afterwards for several days.(it's almost like another period) I've had test after test, vaginals, vaginal ultrasounds and all the doctors say "you're fine, there's nothing wrong with you". I have very heavy and painful periods, I'm always bloated in my stomache. A month ago I started my period and quite seriously bled so bad I thought I was going to die. Every ten minutes I would use a super plus tampon and a pad, this went on for about 5 days. This month I haven't had an actual period, but still bleed everytime I have sex. My boyfriend is very understanding but I know it has to frustrate him. I'm at my wits end with all the doctors who say "there is no medical eveidance to suport these facts of tubal ligation syndrome". I will guarantee if it were happening to one of them (two have been women) they would be the first to support it. I don't know what to do or where to turn.

I had a child in July 2005. In September 2005 I had a tibal ligation surgery. After my surgery I have had heavy periods, blood clots, and major cramping. I cannot stand to this day to have my stomach touched. In April of this year, I stopped having periods for three months. My doctor said that these problems were from having a baby. What a lie. She gave me medicine to help me start my periods again. I started my period again in July 2006, but I am now on birth control to help regulate my periods. Birth Control has not helped. In July 2006 my period was 9 days long. My regular period lasted between 5-7 days before and after my surgery until I started birth control. After my 9 day period I stopped for 5 days then started my period again but lighter this time. I wish I never had a tibal ligation surgery due to all my problems I have had since I had surgery.

My name is Laura, I am 22, and had my tubal done 01/12/06 (when my daughter was born). I have had nonstop problems in all these areas!!! I can not find answers to save my life!!! It all started the day I had it done. I had extreme pain in my right ovary. The doctor told me that it was the start point of the inciscion. Then, my periods were non existant for like 3 months. The doc told me it was because I was breastfeeding. When I stopped breastfeeding after 6 weeks, I had 2 periods that were on time and regulated. Then, starting at the beginning of August, I was late two weeks and had extreme pain and heavy bleeding. It is now the end of September and I still haven't started my period. I took a pregnancy test both times but it came up negative. I have had extreme dryness, and lost the will to even have sex with my husband. I want to but it almost feels as if I am not only dry but raw as well. After I had my tubal, I have also been experiencing "Pangs of Numbness" through my spine, arms, legs, feet, and hands. I also suffer from frequent headaches among other symptoms. I have been trying to lose weight as well, but I stay at 180. I can't lose weight!!! I never had a problem before losing weight until now. I have tried excersizing and dieting. I even tried pills to help. Nothing works. When I go to see my doctor he just thinks that there is nothing wrong or he thinks I am making it all up. Where do I turn to get some answers?! If anyone can help please e-mail me at _[removed]_. Thank you for listening.....

I had my second son by c-section in Nov 06 and at that time I went ahead and had my tubes tied...thinking only about not having more children. I should have thought about what this was going to do to ME. Here are my symptoms 7 months after the fact: severe fatigue, headaches, muscle aches--it almost feels like the flu and occurs right before my period starts, folic acid anemia, loss of sex drive, dryness, loss of concentration and "forgetfulness", some numbness to the extremities, longer periods and while I'm on them I feel like I am going to die. The bleeding is so heavy and I experience big clots. But here's the real kicker to all of this...I have PCOS. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and have been diagnosed with it for 7 years now. I had no idea what a tubal ligation would do to my pcos. Hormonally I'm a mess and attributed my depression to post partum. One little tiny problem--the anti-depressant is not working. I also have cysts on both of my ovaries. Previously I would get a cyst on mainly the right side, now that are coming up on both ovaries. My stomach area is extremely sensitive and I just noticed this recently. Today My Dr. told me that my symptoms might be due to the tubal ligation. Ended up going for blood work and a sonogram because I have a lot of inflammation. Lovely isn't it? If I would have known this stuff before hand I would NEVER have done it...NEVER. I have enough female problems dealing with the PCOS. Also because of my PCOS I am used to feeling in pain in that region a lot of the time but this is just out and out ridiculous. I feel for the women that have never had any problems, get the tubal done and then BOOM...welcome to hell.

The last year I have noticed a concerning difference in my menstrul cycle. Menstrul cramps and fatigue are more severe. The most concerning issue for me is the amount of blood flow and blood clots each month. My periods are lasting about 2 days longer. I thought I was going to bleed to death last month. After my period I am exhausted for about a week. I was trying to think of what could be causing these changes in my cycle. I realized that my menstrul cycle had not been "normal for me" since before the birth of my third child at which time I had a tubal ligation. Then it hit me, I began to question if there was a connection between tubal ligation and my symptoms. ;-) I came across this site and others like it. I am amazed, saddened, angry, and somewhat relieved, at what I have been reading. %-) I have also had weird memory problems and confusion, and increasingly bad mood swings (which have been scaring my husband LOL). I just wish I had known this information before I had the TL. Just FYI I am 31 years old. I had my TL when I was 28 and I have never used birth control pill.

Hey Girls,
I know what you are feeling. I had a tubal about 11 years ago. I had never had cramps before this done. Now it is unbearable, I have to take pain killers every month. I have extreme pain in my left ovary, also alot of gas. I asked the Dr. about it and they say it is not conected with the surgery. I know better after hearing others that have the same problem. I have relized if I eat fruit and no caffeine the day before I stat the pain isn't as bad. I just want to roll up in a ball and cry. I also get really shakey. One time about three years after I had my surgery, I went shopping really early the day after Thanksgiving and surprise I started my period. I started getting really shakey, I could bearly drive my self home. I stopped at a convient store, got a bottle of midol, went into the bathroom took it. I bearly made it home and when I got there I couldn't even walk into the house. I was in major pain my husband had to carry me in to the house I thought I was going to die. I had to figure out something.
I've heard uteran ablasion - where you burn the inside of you uterus and you stop having periods. I have talked to many women who had a tubal and later had this done and they say it is heaven. You might spot but no bleeding, I am seriously considering this. I am now trying lybrel it is a 365 day pill, I am trying everything before another surgery. I have been taking it for 20 days, I was hoping no period, but surprise today I started. Most women after some months stop having periods all together.
I hope that is me. I wish I would have been informed of this before the tubal, I would have made my husband get it done. I wouldn't had to suffer all these years. I hope this helps someone, I wish you all well. And pray for better technology to correct this problem. God Bless,
Mel

I was 6 weeks pregnant and went to er with pains on my right side the dr came in and said the baby is in your tubes taking it for whats its worth I had 3 surgeries in one Knew Of 2 the other was a surprise to a big degree, I had cyst on one ovary and had a d&c done as well then to my surprise the dr gave me a surgery without my permission a tubal ligation (burnt) ya so now this dr calls me for the past 2 weeks and the father of the baby we just lost apoligies ya it was bad to a big degree,\
We both wanted another baby but due to this dr it seems it won't happen to no degree cause of his mistake but he has yet to say a word about why the surgery was done in the first place ya lawyer lawsuit we are already on it but it won't bring OUR BABY back.
And my insurance won't cover for it to be reversed and he said he won't either,
the problem in these weeks have been very bad and I mean bad.
I have numbs on my right side I have fell to the floor where my leg has gave out. Headaches omg they are bad and I mean where I can't sleep,
bleeding omg again I have clots the size of golf balls and hot flashes as well. fatique crying and I have said something to this dr about it and his words ITS ALL IN MY HEAD
Now for all that has been done and said the words exchanged between my finace and dr I can't bare to talk to him much less look at him he has asked me to come to his office so we can talk talk about what is the question how you did a bad thing by the surgery etc.
I have done research and all ain't good.
Ivf is way way to expensive on both me and my fiance budget . but whats one to do and what my grandfather said was a MIRACLE cause now read what I have read over the past week I know getting pregnant and not being in my tubes would be a miracle,
Heartaches I lost also a twin boys in April 5th o8 they would been due this month and I am dealing with the lost as them as well

I am like all of you, 2 years ago after baby boy #3 I had my tubal. I could barely breast feed him, and gained 20 lbs in 6 months, bled every two weeks, finally I had to quit breast feeding because when I would exercise, I would stop producing enough milk, but I couldnt keep gaining. 2 years later I am in SEVERE pain, stabbing pains, more weight gain even though I spent an hour at the gym a day, plus walking, tae bo and pilates. I am now losing hair, my skin is greasy, periods so heavy a pad and super tampon had to be changed every hour, stiff joints and muscles, and I went to the doc yesterday for him to tell me he has never heard of a tubal causing side effects like this and informs me he thinks its PCOS. Well from the reading I have done, both situations have the same symptoms. But for the PTLS its a loss of progesterone and if I were you ladies I would talk to your docs about testing your progesterone levels and see if they can prescribe a treatment for it. I go for my blood work next week.. I wish they would let ladies know when they have the procedure done that these side effects can occur. I was only informed of ectopic pregnancies... NONE of the things I am going through now!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
