I have had rectal dischage almos for 8 months now and my Dr. said it was caused by irritation in the lining. I didn't believe him at all. It was just an answer to shut me up. So for some reason I thought it might be intestinal parasites the cause for this mucus that by the way was white mostly and no smell at all. My anus was itchy but I swear I never scratch I just wipe with moist hazel witch wipes and that's it. So thinking I had parasites I searched a lot about parasites and what I found was that parasites and the "candida albicans" fungi likes sugar and anything that will turn into sugar like rice, pasta, mostly any refined sugars. So decided to start a diet eating fresh veggies no sugar at all, the carb intake would only be from green veggies. One fruit a day like strawberries or other low sugar fruits. No cows milk, just coconut milk unsweeten. To my surprise the mucus has almost stopped. My question here it's why all the sudden I'm discharging this mucus when eating what I've eaten my whole life?

My skin around the anus it's red and itchy when this discharge comes out. I just want to know why? and what causes it? Even if I'm better now with almost no discharge I want to know. Please! If there it's a doctor here be nice and help me. Thanks!

I have been 9 days today from having a B.M. I am a spinal cord injury patient so I have to use suppositories for me to go. However, last night the suppository didn't work (came out meaning I was through although I didn't do ANYTHING). Then, this morning I had mucus all in my pull up. It had no B.M. smell and actually no bad smell. I'm thinking it's vaginal and anal. But, I just got a colonostomy last week and had a light run down into my my stomach b/c I was admitted into hospital from E.R. b/c I had black stool (black stool = very possible bleeding from stomach, ulcer, and all). So, nothing was found. I am worried. Constipation CAN kill you but me quicker. On top of this sh*t we're talking, I read over people's comments and I believe the mucus is from stress b/c I really got stressed yesterday but why I only had two small balls of B.M. in nine days scares me just a little bit.

This has been a very informative yet pretty depressing thread, since most of you don't seem to have found a solution to the problem but rather coping mechanisms.

This is new to me. About 7 months ago now I got a yeast infection. The mother of all yeast infections. For the next 7 months I was on over-the-counter and prescription yeast infection treatments about twice a month. In other words, after a week-long treatment, I would feel relief for a week or sometimes less, and then it would return with a vengance. I have been to a walk-in numerous times and to my family doctor. All just prescribe another yeast treatment and occasionally blood tests (to rule out diabetes).

Then, around Christmas, I started to get a lot of pain in the perenium area - so much so that it hurt to sit. My doctor thought she felt a lump and suspected an deep abscess, but an ultrasound to confirm turned up empty. My doc's next suggestion was a referral to a gynecologist, which I am still waiting for.

Eventually the pain lessened, but I still had the reoccurring yeast infections. Then, about a month ago, I started getting this clear yellow discharge from my anus. The amount has gradually increased to where I need to wear a pad and if I look "back there" I can actually see it dripping. Gross!

I have no troubles with going to the washroom and am very regular, usually going twice a day (morning and night). There has only been minor change in the stool, in that it is maybe not as hard as it used to be (but I wouldn't consider it loose either) and that the shape is more flat than round but overall is the same "size" as usual.

I am wondering if the two are connected? Could the yeast infection have caused an anal infection? Or, could something in my colon/anus be causing the yeast infections? The abscess seemed a likely explanation and may even explain the "flat" poo (if there was a pressure on one side, I'm guessing, and perhaps pushing against the vaginal wall as well?), but it was not found with an ultrasound. Any other ideas? Once in a while there is a spot of blood, but most of the time it is just a thin, yellow fluid.

I am very depressed about this because it has gone on for so long and I am always in some form of discomfort "down there." Doctors don't seem overly concerned to push for more testing, but I feel like my quality of life is diminished because I am always wondering what else it might be (something serious) and the fact that I'm avoiding my husband and am basically diapered at 37!

@Yas - this strikes a cord with me because I've had chronic yeast infections for about 7 months, then just in this last month started having this this clear (but slightly yellow) discharge from my anus. I wonder if it's possible that the candida spread? I'm not itchy back there at all though. The discharge is suprisingly heavy. I have to wear a pad and I can actually feel it dripping out. It's very concerning and I don't know if the two are related or if one caused the other. I've had two sets of ultrasounds and 3 rounds of bloodwork and nothing has turned up, so I just don't think my doctor is overly concerned. Well, I am! This is not normal and there has to be a way to stop it!

> It was a good programme, but I don't think that was the cause.

Thank you for that. Gave me a good laugh, and considering that anal leakage is what I'm googling today, I really needed one.

Did you ever see that movie the Ladykillers? The one guy met his wife at a convention for people with IBS or whatever... we should set that up. ISS - I sh*t snot.

My friend is a nurse and in fact this issue we are having is becoming more and more problematic over the last 2-3 years.

I have had this for 3 years and know how to fix it.

First and foremost, you can't.  You can only control it.  The antibiotics they are injecting into chicken and beed are causing flora to die off in our rectum.  This increases mucus production to make sure the stool gets through.

Once the flora in your anal canal get messed up, its hard to get them back.  But here are the BEST ways to control it.  You have to do these for 3-4 days to see results.  One mess up and it won't work.

1.  Increase water intake.  8-10 glasses

2.  NO stimulants.  None.  Nothing you eat or drink can cause any excitement in your intestine.  Triggers are coffee, nicotine, and alcohol ( pretty much my diet ).  Smoking is #1, but a close second is coffee.  If you are lazy and can't imagine changing your diet, go DECAF for 3 days and see what happens.  You'll have a monster headache but thats it.  When I skip coffee but drink IPA beers its horrible for three days.  Vodka is better.

3. Lower the gluten AND the diary.  I find that diary kills me more than gluten.  Both of these need special enzymes to digest and the damn anitbiotics in the chicken and beef are killing them off.

4. Exercise.  Walk, run.  Do something.  20-30 minutes of something, anything.

For me the magic trick is no coffee and no beer for 2-3 days.  I have one massive bowel movement in the morning and hit the shower to clean up instead of rashing up my anal opening which just irriates is more and more.

Fact of the matter is that consumption of personal wipes (baby wipes) has gone up 2,400% in the last few years.  Our sewars and toilets are just clogged like heck now and its because everyone is having issues with these sticky stools with lots of mucus. A better diet controls the issue much more.

I had decided to do a detox today. I filled my gallon jug with water and added about 6-8 ozs. of Bragg's ACV. I was sipping on it throughout the day. I ended up drinking over 3/4 of it. All of a sudden I felt slippery, "back there." And I had very, very faint cramping. I went to the restroom and wiped myself. I usually don't look, but I was curious. I saw this brownish/dark green discharge (about a TBS). It was like mucus, but it didn't have an odor. I got really scared, but I figured it had to be from all of the ACV and water that I'd drank since that had never happened before. Nearly an hour later, I had that slippery feeling again, "back there." I went to the bathroom again and sure enough I saw the discharge again (only this time it was not even a 1/4 of a tsp.). What could that have been? There's no more cramping or discharge. I really do believe that it was from ACV and water. So I just continued drinking more and more water.

You should get tested for an STD or internal infection, this shouldn't happen from having sex.

Wow, this is kind of depressing. I thought maybe there would be a medical solution.

I started noticing mucus discharge around December of 2013. I didn't know what it was as it had no smell or color. It's just clear, and it only happens when I have bowl movements, but by the time I make it to the bathroom my underwear is wet from behind.

I've had this for over 10 years and it recall getting me down. Only lately people around me have started to notice it as it stinks! The smell is really bad sometimes, like rotten fish! My anus also relaxes sometimes, especially if I have had a few to drink. Or if I worry about it and clench my bum together, sometimes it feels as though I can't hold it. I suffer from psoriasis and it is at the top of my crack but also I have a red rash/sore all around the anus area. I was wondering if anyone else have the same symptoms? I believe I've had piles before as I've had blood on the tissue. Also I had a little inspection with my finger and can feel a little lump on the north side just a little way in. The Dr has felt this before but said it could possibly be an old fissure or fistula. I believe it could be an abcess that got infected. Hence the bad smell. I'm going round the Dr's in 2 days as I'm really not happy about this, especially as I can't go out and enjoy myself and have 'mates' sniggering behind my back! I've book marked this page, so will update if I get a good outcome!

I have battled this problem since about 18 months now, after a sudden onset of IBS. About six months ago I thought I had it licked, when the mucus discharge dis appeared about two weeks after taking pro-biotics. That did not last very long, even doubling the dose of pro-biotics did not improve the condition.

I have battled this problem since about 18 months now. About six months ago I thought I had it licked, when the mucus discharge disappeared about two weeks after taking pro-biotics. That did not last very long. even doubling the dose of pro-biotics did not improve the condition. Some doctors recommend Kegel exercises to strengthen the sphincter, but that does not work for most of us, because our mucus problem is usually accompanied with excessive gas. That gas has to go out and if it does, the mucus simply hitches a ride, soiling our underwear, no matter how athletic your sphincter is.
The following does not alleviate the problem, but is an effective way of curtailing the embarrassment related to it:
I use a single sheet of toilet paper, fold it in third one way and then again in half. That gives me six layers, which I then pinch into the sphincter. When the gas passes this min diaper blots up the mucus and lets the gas pass. It also dampens any rude sounds, giving you a lot of freedom, unless you have also an odor problem. My wife knows to date nothing of my problem. I remove the paper quickly, when indicated and my underwear remains clean.
