Like everyone else, I've been sick more than I've been well for the last seven months. On four different courses of antibiotics, two for a mysterious stomach illness and the rest for sinus/chest infection. I'm sick yet again at the moment, and totally despondent. I'm wondering if I have a compromised immune system or a really serious disease at the root of all this. It's maddening.
If anyone has words of wisdom, I'd love to hear them. At least I'm in good company.

That is so bizarre, I have been sick every moth since January. Either it's a cold or it feels like a flu. I am tired of having my skin ache. Been to many doctors, they all just say.. it's a virus.. It's starts to make you feel like there is no end of this in sight. I am on my 7th virus, before this year I never got sick.. maybe once every year if that. What is going on?

I am a substitute teacher in the public schools and I too have this mysterious recurring flu. I know of several teachers who have the same thing and we have been comparing notes. I last had the flu in July (following November, December, February and April/May episodes) and started teaching on Sept. 3rd. After one day teaching, my flu kicked in again, more violently than ever. I also know of several people who had business in the schools that week and one of them now has the same flu. I am wondering about school buildings, or virus that does not affect the kids same as adults???? I know it's a stretch, but this is getting kind of scary. I had to leave a new job in July because I developed pneumonia from the latest attack. Have tried massive antibiotics and it was not successful. The only relief is taking prescribed steroids to "gut my way thorough" again. I hope this starts getting some national attention.

I'm in the east of England and I've had the same symptoms as the above post's. This all started around around christmas time with flu like symptoms. Thought I had got rid of it, then it came back. This has gone on ever since. It's now 8th sept, and I feel like it's returning yet again !
Everytime I think It's gone away it returns. I've taken everything for it too, starting with antibiotics and then onto over the counter stuff, yet still it comes back. I'm starting to believe there is something more to this than the 'docs' are letting on. They either say, flu...virus....or asthma. Hmmmmm

I too have had these symptoms for about 8 weeks. At long last it has been positively identified as a bacterial infection called "mycoplasma pneumoniae". My Thoracic specialist said it was fairly common and often not diagnosed correctly due to the recurring nature. It has been treated with an antibiotic called clarithromycin. I'm better now.

Try doing a search on a bacterial infection known as "mycoplasma pneumoniae". I recently had these symptoms and this is what I was found to have. Apparantly it is quite common but often incorrectly diagnosed due to the recurrent nature. Now been fixed up with a course of clarithromycin.

Hi All,
I am currently going through the same thing.
Has this ended for you guys?
Did anyone get any good answers/solutions from doctors?
Might just be bad luck - but I'm not being told anything useful.

I've had the same thing and my doctor said it's been a bad year everywhere for colds and flu. Ie lots of new virus strains that our bodies aren't capable of fighting off. It certainly seems like lots of people are getting sick! I'm not really sure if this accounts for the recurring nature of the colds here though. I can understand getting sick lots and spread out but I'm feeling great one day and sick the next.
this is an article on the illness above: emedicine.medscape.com/article/807927-overview
Does anyone know if treatment of this is antibiotics?

Google reaccuring cold and vitamin D3. I have had 3 rounds since November 1, 2008. I do not drink 2 glasses of milk a day & live in a northern climate. Little sun and dare not expose skin if there was sun.
Upstate NY has been very cold & early cold this year. The info from a search indicates vitamin D goes low in winter. There is alot of suggestion
on what to do that is simple and inexpensive. My multi viotamin has little D in it, so read the labels. Cod Liver oil or a D3 supplement may be the ticket. Milk has little D in it - it takes alot to get out of a deficiency.
Hope this helps and you feel better

I too am on my 5th cold this year. This time it came back with avengence after a 1 week reprieve. I noticed no one came up with any solutions. I'm thinking I reinfected myself with my saline nasal spray, eye creams, mascara, toothbrush, Vicks Vapor rub, etc. This time I'm throwing all away and starting fresh. I noticed I never had a single bout during the 2 years I was working out, trying to eat my 5 fruit -veggies/day. I always drink 2 liters of water a day and take a good multi vit and 500 mg additional Vit C and that hasn't help stop this. Stress, pollution, lack of exercise, sleep, and good nutrition may be the culprit. I work in a cubicle all day and don't see the sun- and stay in doing chores on the weekend- even tho I'm a mile from the beach. Maybe more sunshine and Vit D getting to the skin will help as well.

So glad to read this as have been feeling v isolated with these symptoms. Have now had 9 separate week long prescriptions of penecillin (between March 2008 to present) and without fail always fall ill again within a week.
Driving me crazy as get married in May and have an active honeymoon booked to Iceland which is now in jeapordy - just do not know what to do. Have had blood tests, chest X-rays, nasal CT scans, Allergy tests..... all seems normal but I am still ill!!!
If anyone can help or advise, I would be so so grateful - as would my fiance as it is effecting our lives awfully at the moment.
Thank you.

End October 2008 developed first cold after meeting with brittish colleague and colds have been reoccuring ever since. Anti-biotics did help, but only temporarily, even had a bronchitis. The coughing has never been gone for more than a few days. I wouldn't have recognized my GP on the street before, now he feels like my wife. I've been feeling not taken serious by the docters and I'm so glad I found this forum, because I think my wife and daughter of 1.5 years have developed it too. My little one even had a double pneumonia. I think this mycoplasma pneumonia sounds very likely and will go to the GP again and ask for the correct medicine.

I'm on my fourth cold since Thanksgiving 08, and one thing that is different for me this year is sleep pattern. My work is getting me up earlier than ever before, and with twin babies at home, there is only so early I can get in bed. Anyone else with the cold coming back have a different sleep pattern?
