I was a runner through all 4 years of high school. I did cross country, winter, and spring track. I never had any major problems except towards the end of my high school career I had a little fluid build up in my knees, but this went away. I stopped running after I graduated high school. I am now 25 (7 years later) and have picked up running again in the past 2 months. I don't run that far, around 3 miles. I have noticed the past few weeks that when I stop my run, my legs (specifically my hamstring and calf right above and below the knees) are in much more pain than I recall from my earlier younger days. I actually usually limp a lap around the track to cool down because I can't walk normally. When I go to stretch down I notice that my knees are extremely red and ice cold, even though the rest of by body is sweating. I'm assuming it may be a circulation issue, but I don't understand why only my knees are cold and the rest of my legs are fine. After awhile, the redness and coldness goes away. Any ideas of what could be going on? Thanks.

When I used to run this exact same thing would happen to me. I don't think I ever saw a doctor about it because I didn't think about it at the time but I was probably really injuring my knees. In my mind it seems like the redness is not related to circulation or anything but instead it's a stress issue. In either case, it can't hurt ot see a doctor about this. Does anyone else have any ideas?
