Hello there,

I have been dealing with the same issue for a few years now. For no apparent reason, my face will begin to get itchy. Sigh...after 2 years I know what's next :( Then my face swells, mainly under my eyes, and turns red like I have a serious sunburn. Sometimes not my whole face, but always at least around my eyes and nose. It's horrible to try not to scratch it. It alternates between itching, burning, and prickling. Sometimes my ears and neck get itchy too. I put ice under my eyes to try and combat the swelling, because as others have described, I look like I've been assaulted. The red areas will also turn leathery and flaky. Someone on this site recommended lemon juice on a cotton ball to reduce redness. I just tried it. It felt like battery acid on my face. I ran screaming to the sink to splash cold water on it. Well... at least I can say I tried....Allergies were ruled out, as well as the products I use. Now, after a visit to the doctor where he could SEE it, I have my answer. It's caused from hormone fluctuations due to menopause. Great. My options are hormone replacement therapy (which I don't want) or prescription topical cream. A proper diet also will help lessen the severity. Fruits, veggies, plenty of fluids, ect. Alcohol, smoking, and caffeine seem to make it worse. Which is ok, because I look too scary to go out and enjoy any of those..hahahaha. If you're pre or post menopausal, you should look into it. I'm not sure if it can be caused by hormone fluctuations of someone who is not menopausal. If you look up symptoms of menopause, you'll most likely see this skin condition described, as well as photos. Ohh.. those brave souls that allow a photo to be taken.....
