Couple years ago I read about the HPV test and have since then turned 26. Every time I ask my doctor for it she says I don't need it since my Pap tests have always been normal, but I am upset because my best friend suffers from reoccurring HPV and I know that some times her pap test was normal? What I am supposed to do? I am afraid of cancer.

Your experience is a common; doctors are relied only on the Pap test for years. It is only in the past few years that the HPV test was developed. It shown to be almost 100% accurate along with the Pap in reassuring women that they do not carry the high risk strains of the virus and are therefore not at risk for cervical cancer. I don’t understand reoccurring HPV with you friend. But I advise you to get prepared to your next doctor visit and let him know you want the 100% peace of mind a negative test can bring you.
