Hello! I am in the sixth month of pregnancy and I have been having pain in the right upper quadrant close to the rib for the last five days. I have also had pressure in my lower back and I am really worried. I was wondering if these could be signs of so called pre-eclampsia that occurs in women in pregnancy. Please, help!

Well, many women with similar problems are admitted to hospital to check for preeclamsia but it usually turns out that the pain in the right upper quadrant is just an epigastric problem, nothing more. The symptoms you mentioned are not even typical pre-eclampsia signs. Pre-eclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure and proteins in the urine. The back pain in pregnancy is common and could be due to several factors like hormones, bad posture, extra weight and changes in gravity due to the baby in the uterus. You should have it checked though to see if there are any epigastric problems that need treatment.
