Hi, I also just noticed this ring shaped sore at the top of my tongue 10 minutes ago. It has the same feeling I have when I'v burned my tongue with very hot tea. But I wasn't eating anything hot. I had just eaten some light curry rice and some vanilla biscuits when I noticed a discomfort on my tongue that wasn't going away, then I checked and found it. It is the size of the tip of my finger, reddish/dark pinkish in color and more whitish at the bottom of the ring. I don't know if there is any connection, but prior to this, I had a minor headache and a stomach ache. I'm still experiencing them but at a much lesser concentration

I'm in my third trimester of pregnancy and have been experiencing an extreme amount of stress. I have this white, ring shaped thing on the tip of my tongue and first it was on my left side for a long time, went away for a couple days and then appeared on the right tip of my tongue. Do you still think it's a geographical tongue?

I have this too. It's awful! Started as one but now I can get three to four at a time! Always near the tip. Starts tiny and then grows and disappears as it grows. It's like a red ring and smooth in the middle. I've also been having stomach issues lately.

It's called map tongue/geographic tongue. Normally people are born with it. There is no cure, but cutting out acidic, sour, spicy foods, even really salty stuff, can keep it from acting up. I personally can't eat walnuts, pecans, oranges or anything really acidic.

Your question is an old post, but a very. good question. I have exactly the same sore. I am waiting to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. As soon as I know what it is and how I got it and is it curableI I will update should this same question be searched by others.

It's possibly "geographic tongue". Look up pictures for geographic tongue and see if that fits.

I noticed the same thing last night mine is a complete red circle about 1/2 inch. The only thing I done different is I been drinking Braggs Apple Cider about 2 weeks. I am stopping today.I will update if any change.

My kids and I used to get this. I found it was a combination of certain types of oils as well as an acidic catalyst. I switched from vegetable oil over to olive oil and we don't have this problem anymore.
Since then, my kids have had home made chips over at their grandparents house and ended up with the same rings on their tongues. Grandparents have since switched to olive oil.
Other types of oils I've found to break down the protection against acids have been oils in sausages and preserved meats, pistachios, canola and sunflower.
I suggest keeping an eye on what you eat in combination with acidic foods.

I suffer from the same thing and have since i was a little kid but I've found it usually occurs whenever I have too much of anything with a high sugar content especially chocolate, recently I've been on a cleaner diet only eating confectionaries no more than once a week and almost every time I eat them I get it, if u consume a lot of sugar maybe try cutting your intake and see if it makes a difference
