The correct name for "rocks in the ear" is benign proximal positional vertigo. People who have it are often misdiagnosed. Mine started two years ago and during allergy season becomes worse along with tinnitus, eardrum pressure, a throbbing headache and other symptoms that have been described here. When the vertigo first occurred I was scared to death. Finding out the cause has helped me cope better with the dizziness and occasional disorientation. An over-the-counter antihistamine like Benadryl helps to relieve the symptoms.

that summarizes my symptoms too. I ve had those for about 2 years and considered various causes: teeth problems, chronic sinusitis, polyps in the sinus, ear infections, blood infections etc...
It happened that none of those were correct and the main reason of these symptoms was ACID REFLUX which transit from the stomach up to the throat, larynx and i strongly believe even higher. Since taking meds (Prilosec) the symptoms have been reduced: less to no ear pressure, way less dizziness and less headaches...So you might want to try considering this cause (the fact that ppl were saying that alcohol, caffeine and others were making the symptoms worse conforts the idea of possible acid reflux which are exacerbated by those).
HOWEVER, the symptoms did not disappear completely at all...they often appear now in times of stress, almost immediately, I have no idea on how to deal with it...and just like someone wrote, i m not sure whether stress is causing the physical symptoms or if it is the other way around... it seems to be very difficult to distinguish. It feels like sometimes my mind is going out of control and i can not focus nor feel normal, and this goes with pressure behind the nose and elevated internal temperature. If anyone has more advice that would be great.
Thank you.

So I've had head pressure, ringing in ears and aches that come and go... nausea (slight) on and off... and some fatigue.. This has been going on 5 months. I have great cholesterol levels, good blood levels, no thyroid problems, and I've been through a complete series of expensive antibiotics. NOTHING has helped. I'm sick of feeling sick and never sure if I can do what I want to do. I take no meds and never get sick... What the H>>>> is this??? Now going for CT scan to check sinuses.. good think I have insurance! anyone have and get over this?

I have been feeling light-headed, disorientated and off balance for approx 8 years now with absolutely no help from doctors. I just got used to it in the end.
Luckily it disappeared suddenly about a year and a half ago but has since come back and this time seems worse. Recently I have also been suffering from pressure at the top of my nose, the top of my head and sometimes in my temples. My ears feel full and the balance problems are back!
They doctor is baffled as I don't fit into any one category and all my hearing, balance tests were fine. I am also terrified that it is a brain tumour but my ENT said I would have other symptoms i.e. loss of feeling/numbness in limbs etc... Just been for an MRI of my hearing system and will get results in about 3 weeks time.....

I have had similar symptoms over the past 5 months . It started out with a headache, swallowing difficulties, shakiness, feeling dizzy and confused. Had blood tests and results came back normal, the only thing that is abnormal is my pulse which is faster than it should be. Doctor has put it down to anxiety and prescribed citalopram but im too scared to take it as im worried it will make me worse.
Over last few months my headaches have been worse than normal don't think a day has gone by when i have not had one, I have bad pressure in head and ears, my teeth throb and my whole face aches sometimes, also i get this strange popping sensation in my throat and in my head, it really worries mr that something more serious is wrong. Doctors won't send me for a CT scan or MRI, can't afford to go private. This is affecting my life and my relationship as im so tired most days and get irritated and snappy because ofr not feeling well. Anyone with any answers please help! thank you.

I've been living with these issues for 10 yrs now. I got fed up spending good money after bad, so I quit trying the meds. The ear ringing happens occasionally but the last week or so it's constant. There are lots of people who have to live with far worse things, some life threatening, so I just suck it up and carry on. I have all my limbs, my mind, and certainly reasonable health. I doubt the patients in the burn unit would have much sympathy for my moaning...so i don't.

In response to the rocks in the ears. They are calcium crystals that swim in the fluid of your inner ear, sometimes they can get knocked loose by a jarring or head injury, or even something random. What happens when they are out of the fluid is they bump into nerve endings when you move a certain way, mostly lying down or turning over while you're lying down. There is a maneuver called the Epley technique discovered by a doctor in Oregon. This is used by some ENT Doctors. I have had this done in Portland and it worked completely. What they do is lay you on your back until they can make the spinning happen, and they pinpoint the spot that makes it go off, and basically turn your head and lift you back up. They do this until they can't make the spinning happen anymore. They are able to maneuver the crystals back into the the fluid by doing this.
Of course, this only relates to that particular issue. It's not the only thing that causes vertigo but it may be it.

I've been having these symptoms too. my neck hurts, one of my temples seems swollen but im not sure because i get freaked out easily, sometimes dizzie, but the most irritating is my head. my head feels as if its poping sometimes or something, its very hard to explain but it makes me want to grab my head or itch my scalp. i think im overreacting but i've never done that before. i feel tired sometimes and the left side of my face goes numb.in the mornings its not bad but toward night time it gets bad and i worry it might be a brain tumor but i dont experiance any nausea or headaches. my doctor said i have two ear infections and alot of other allergy problems and prescribed me medicine. i feel better after reading these post since it calms me down that others have these same problems. i also started feeling as if cold blood or warm blood is going to my brain. the last one worries me so i would like to know if any of you have experianced that or not. please reply its driving me CRAZY. :'(

I've had all these symptoms for about three years. I have had the MRIs, CT scans, and much, much more and thankfully nothing serious shows up. I also get weakness in my legs and as long as I'm moving, I seem ok. I just can't stand in one place for long without feeling like my legs will give way and I feel like I might pass out. I think this is stress but I don't know what to do about it. Anyone else experience weakness?

Thank God Im not the only one with this.
I feel all the symptoms as well stated by others.
It's not fun let me tell you!!!!
Im a 28 year old male with good health otherwise, blood work didnt show anything at all
I was involved in a car accidant 3 months ago and things got worse!
I feel tired all the time, pressure headaches, temple throbing, quick hearing loss for a sec or so following with a ring and then it goes away, brain fog every now and then, arm and feet tingle/numbing, only sometimes but mostly after a panic attack when my heart acts up or I have a though time breathing, that happens mostly at night. Sounds like anxiety/panic attacks to me.
I think I developed these attacks stressing the way I been feeling for the past 8 months.
Ive done a CT scan after the accident and they didnt see anything wrong, allthough they were looking for internal bleeding so I'm
not sure if they took their time to look for other stuff.
Ive never had sinus problems in the past....now I get a bad taste in my mouth often and when I clear my nose/throat I see yellow spit, sometimes orangish and today it was white with a good trace of blood. I use Ayr nasal solution to cleanse.
Reading about sinus infection symptoms, they dont sound anything like what I have! Any thoughts???
I should also add that I had I ear wax problem....it was compacted!!!
I was able to flush it with peroxide and alot of time in the bathroom. Disgusting!!!!
I'm also sensitive to sounds and bright light lately.
