Hi. I am a guy that is fifteen years old and I have overheard a conversation that my parents were having. They were talking about my moms friend and my mother said that she had schwanoma. I never heard that word before and I think that it is in medical context. Could someone explain me this if it is possible.

Schwannoma is one particular tumor that originates from Schwann cells. These tumor cells are always outside the nerve and can cause possible damage to the nerve (by pushing it from outside). Good news is that Schwann tumors are exclusively benign, so there is probably no fear for her life. I hope that I was clear enough.
