Seriously, guys, the discussion veered off in that direction?  I'm not going into details because it isn't necessary, but I know that these are not the case for me; nothing to do with STDs (hell, I was a virgin til I was 27) or using soap.

To be clear:  A large patch of the scrotum becomes dry and leathery, then cracks and peels off in large, thick chunks of skin.  Pretty literally molting!

I had this happen to me when I was about 11, and all of the sudden it just happened again when I am 40.  I find it very weird that it sounds to happen at about the same age ranges to other guys.  It happened rather suddenly both times, lasts for a total of about a week, and then goes away.  Because of the ages, I have to wonder if it has anything to do with hormonal shifts; puberty on one end and "male menopause" on the other.

I'm half tempted to talk with a doctor about this, because it sounds like no one has a friggin clue.  I just don't want them to identify some previously unknown biological condition, and apply my name to it.  ha ha ha ha

ok guys,a woman here. so my fiance has a dry patch about 2 inches around on the scrotum. keeps coming back...and hello it must not be std cause i havent caught it. and the only jerkin going on is when im doing it for him. so maybe it is the laundry detergent. or maybe hes been needing a little extra in the shower with soap?

Hey,

I had the same thing. I had a "dawn dish soap"/water fight with a girl. The soapy water dried after a short time and about a day or two later my scrotum was completely leathery. It's peeling now. It definitely gives you a scare at first.

The symptoms of jock itch may come and go, and many cases of jock itch resolve spontaneously without any treatment. Jock itch is primarily seen in the groin, although it may spread to the inner thighs, genitals (including penis, scrotum, labia, and vaginal opening), and anus.

While jock itch is frequently noted in otherwise healthy patients, patients with diabetes and/or obesity are more susceptible. Possible causes of this common groin itch include irritation from tight or abrasive underwear, excess moisture, sweating, skin rubbing or friction, allergic problems, fungal infection, Candida (yeast) infection, and bacterial overgrowth or skin infection.

Treatment of fungal-related jock itch may include one or a combination of antifungal creams and, rarely, antifungal pills. Treatment of jock itch that is not caused by fungus involves proper groin hygiene, keeping the area clean and dry, and washing frequently with gentle soap and water (especially after sweating or exercise).

Jock itch causes a symmetrical red or pink rash on the sides of the groin folds. There may be a dry, scaly rash or a collection of small, pinpoint red or pink bumps at each hair follicle.

During pubescence I had this problem twice. I asked my friend if he ever had the same problem. He had, and we jokingly called it Golden Week.  Just as OP said it might just be a right of passage. All will eventually discover what one can and cannot jerk off with.

Dont jerk off with dish soap.

This is currently happening to me because accidentally let shampoo dry down there (don't ask). My friend said this happened to him around his 20's (similar reasons) and it healed up fine with lotion. It's just dry skin, it might get itch later but it;ll heal up. Get some lotion and apply it.

I had exactly the same experience, at approximately the same age (am 51 now) and I've always wondered what it was about. The skin was dry, almost like a thin crust and essentially my entire scrotum was involved. Like you, I told no one. I recall that it lasted a few days and then one day it just seemed to peel off and I recall the skin underneath was pink, and soft. I couldn't help but think of a snake shedding it's skin. It was marginally itchy, as I recall. It wasn't painful, and the itch wasn't distracting, just sort of a healing itch. I was so glad when it went, and it never happened again. I wondered if it might have been associated with a lot of swimming and running around in a wet bathing suit..

Woooooo... Dish soap is my culpret.. Omg. Well I was with a nasty b***h and ran to the sink and dawned the heck out of my penis n balls... Day or two later I got the leather sack. Praise the lord! I deserved that scare. I'm going to church and going to admire and care for my smooth std free nuts for the rest of my life.

I had a similar problem in college and went to the Doctor. He told me that my body was not adjusting properly to the climate change due to the weather fluctuating from 90 degree days to 50 degree days that year and that my scrotum was actually in a defense mode for a lack of a better term and was hide within me instead of hanging. This caused a lot of dry uncomfortable times. I put a ton of lotion on it and pealed it away as I could and it went away w/in two weeks but those weeks sucked ass.

Made me laugh. I have done the same thing, being honest, I was scared sh*tless to see my balls have something like it, no wonder it was so itchy down there like a fire... Or is that something else D:
