I wanted to know if there is anything to be concerned about with not having sex or masturbation. As a Christian who is not married or dating, I am not sexually active (and have not been so for 10 years now). Since masturbation is pretty much a sexual pleasure focus, I look at it as not a truly Godly choice. ? ? ?

I know that women in the past practiced chastity and there are many women who they call spinsters (I think that is more along the lines of not getting married) but you never hear of their sexual issues or medical concerns, if there are any. I want to know if I need to be concerned with the lack of stimulation sexually (whether through masturbation or sex) is harmful to my body or would cause any issues. I have heard of something called clitoral atrophy and it has been mentioned with hysterectomies (I had one in 2004). :'(

Thanks for the info.

If you feel that masturbation isn't what you want to do, then don't do it.

Lack of sex does not typically cause physical problems. Some women can get breast or uterine cancer who have remained abstinent, but if you were to ask me (and this is just my opinion), I believe it stems from emotional aspects. These women may feel "cheated" in the fact that they haven't had sex or had any children, so disease attacks their sexual organs. Again, my opinion, but if you have a positive attitude about remaining chaste outside of marriage, your sexual organs will remain healthy.

As far as clitoral atrophy, that's possible, yes. However, if you ever start having sex with a man, using that muscle frequently should be able to get it strong again. I suggest you use that time as an opportunity to discover sex. Discover how fun and intimate it is. Discover everything your body and his body can do together. A lot of people have the opinion that you want to be "good" for your spouse, but I think a lot of them forget the fun and intimacy of discovering sex together. It can be quite a relationship-building experience.
