When trying to focus on a smudge on my glasses I recently noticed that when I bring my right eye out of focus there are a few bands of 'shadow' areas -- kind of like curtains that, while I can still see through, are dimmer than other areas. This only happens when I force the eye out of focus and is most noticeable against bright areas and when I move my head.
