I became ill three weeks ago with severe headach, fever, and upset stomach. After 24 hours I felt better. Then three days later I developed high fever and right side pain. I went to the doctor and he thought it might be diverticulitis, which I've had before. For some reason I had Avelox already at home and he said I could take that. After each pill, I got sicker. I felt like I was being poisened, sickest I've ever been in my life. Fever around 103, unable to eat, total lethargy. Ended up in the ER. They did an Ultrasound of my gallbladdar and it was normal. They did a CT dye contrast of my abdomen and it was normal. Only thing abnormal were my liver enzymes.
I was released, told not to take anymore of the Avelox and return to my doctor for repeat bloodwork. My alk. phos. level continued to rise up to 1000 so he sent me to a liver specialist who ran many more tests and everything looked okay but this one level and an elevated elocenophelac count in my CBC.
He and his partners feel it was shock liver. Do you agree? Can this really happen from an antibiotic? Thanks.
