I was diagnosed with optical nuritis 13 months back. It all started with my right eye getting very tired in the morning. I work on computer for the whole day. Having tired eyes after 9/10 hours of work is a common experience for me. But having it at the beginning of the day was kind of wierd. Optometrist found something wrong with my right eye. The optholmologist confirmed the swelling of optical nerve. I had angiography test to find out any leakages in the blood vessels around the eye. Didn't find anything wrong. I had blood and MRI tests. Both tests were negative for MS.

During last few months, my right eye gets veeeery tired sometimes, sometimes I feel acute pain in the same eye. Today I noticed I see double images in 10 O' clock position. I am going to see the optholmologist tommorrow.

Yes I used to have sinus headache very often. I could link my sinus pain to eating yogurt. I have almost stopped eating yogurt since I noticed. I do neti once a while to keep my sinus pain under control.

Can one have sinus infection without having symtoms like fever etc?

Hi...
I know the original post is 3 yrs old but I just stumbled upon it.
Last week my daughter lost the vision in her right eye.
We rushed her to the ER and they couldn't seem to find the cause.

She was then airlifted to the Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia.
After extensive testing the doctors agreed that her sinus had become infected by
a bacteria that made it's way to the optic nerve and caused swelling there.
They said this was very rare and put here on steroids and antibiotics.
After 6 days in the hospital she is now at home.

She needs to be on 2 antibiotics for a few more weeks.
Her visoin which was almost 0% in the ER has now returned to about 85%.
This was the worst week of my life.
Hopefully the antibiotics do their work and she never has this happen again.

I have learned much through a CATscan, 2 MRIs, blood tests, ect.

If anyone has a question I'd be glad to help.
Good luck to everyone here.

I just added G Monster Sleeping aid to my supplements Program; it has helped me sleep and has been helping me recover my muscles from the brutal training that I put on my self. It gives me a little buzz before bed and that is good for me because I do not drink, since alcohol weakens athletic performance.

6 Perfect meals a day

Work 6 hours a day; 7 days a week
Sleep 8 hours a day; 7 days a week
Train 6 hours a day; 5 days a week
1 heaping tablespoon of G Monster 30 minutes before bed.

Wake up: 2 tablespoons of Metamucil (this is to remove the bi-products and soreness from my body brutal training
Immediately drop a deuce, and then have first meal.

Late Morning
1.5 hours: Boxing; Muay Thai; Jui-Jitsu
30 minutes circuit weights
3 times a week; mixing it up every time
1 hour: stretch

Post meal replacement while sitting in an ice bath

Late After Noon
1 hour: Boxing; Muay Thai; Jui-Jitsu; Wrestling
90 Minutes: Bikram Yoga or Power Yoga or Gimnastics
30 minutes: stretch

Post meal replacements while sitting in an ice bath

30 Minutes before bed I take G Monster to help me sleep; when training like this, my body is tired but my mind does not want to shut off; I was sitting in bed thinking and thinking. G Monster has the ability to help me relax and get the REM sleep plus the GH response to rest and recover for my next brutal day ahead of me.

I've been suffering headaches related to sinus problems for many years (close to a decade). Doctors haven't been overly helpful, in fact, most don't really seem to know much about the problem. I think it's mostly luck/chance as to whether you meet a doctor that knows enough about your condition to properly advise you.

My sinus problems are allergy related, which means the cure revolves around getting monthly injections to desensitise me to what I'm allergic to (dust mites and grass). Each person will have different causes; bacteria, fungus, toxins, contaminants, irritants, blockages, poor blood flow, etc, etc.

From what I understand, there are four sinus cavities (on each side of your face). Each of these secretes mucus to help protect you against disease/illness. Any of the causes above can result in these cavities failing to empty, build up with mucus and become a breeding ground for organisms. The walls of your sinus cavities become inflamed, swell, and cause you significant facial pain; including headaches.

Other symptoms of this include nausea, dizziness, fatigue, nasal drip, polyps, loss of smell, bad breath, tooth ache, headaches, coughing, and facial sensitivity.

In severe cases, when the cavities are very blocked, the mucus can leak into the brain. This introduces the various organisms into an area which is normally off-limits. When this happens you can suffer a loss in mental ability; including ability to maintain attention, memory loss, lessened ability to interpret information, loss in expressive and receptive vocabulary, among others.

Somewhere/how amongst all this, many people (including myself) are suffering problems with vision. The doctors I've spoken to express a disinclination to believe it's related to the sinus issues; they steer towards problems with the eyes themselves, or towards more serious issues such as tumors. In my case, a tumor was ruled out on doing a CT scan, which revealed severe pansinusitis.

I'm convinced that they're related. I had my eyes tested and they have come up (very) healthy. My thoughts are leaning towards the swelling and infection contaminating or putting pressure on the optic nerve; thus blocking off certain neural pathways. I'd assume many of you are suffering the same issues.

My vision issues are quite varied, ranging from a general blurriness, to blind spots, loss in peripheral vision, lasting cellular fatigue, and splashes of coloured 'static' across my visual field. This range in issues strikes me as being a neural (pressure) problem with neurons firing when not needed and not firing when needed (accounts for the 'static' and 'blindspots', along with cellular fatigue and the blurriness). From my understanding, pressure on neural pathways will trigger a response in them, but too much pressure blocks off that response. But I may be wrong here.

In severe cases, antibiotics don't work; because the bacterial 'playground' is somewhat isolated; the sinus cavities are insulated from your bloodstream where the antibiotics function. After you've run the course of your meds, some bacteria remain in the sinus cavity, and continue their cycle of evolution. In these cases, an operation is sometimes needed to clear everything out. Oddly, when doctors mention this, they explain a risk of a loss in sight, but they don't make that same connection with relation to the sinus problem itself. On querying this, they explain that the procedure involves clearing the cavities behind the eyes, which runs the risk of cracking the (thin) bone that makes up your eye sockets. Yet my thoughts flow to; sustained pressure behind the eyes would/could also put pressure on the optic nerves. Which is why (like many of you) we suffer eye problems on one side more that the other; one sinus cavity is worse than the other. Maybe we should collect details of people suffering similar symptoms and write up a journal article.. may be useful in helping others with similar conditions.

Anyhow.. I tend to write a lot, so I'll leave this here and hope that someone finds some use in it.

Regards,
Kris

I am an optometry student and am currently researching a case in which a 45 yo male is experiencing double vision in left gaze, proptosis (outward bulging of one eye), recurrent sinusitis, and hearing loss in one ear. I stumbled upon your discussion when searching for the symptoms and would like to offer my input. I have been leaning toward a diagnosis of a vasculitis termed Wegener's Granulomatosis. It's a chronic inflammatory disease that causes the symptoms I have listed as well as others involving the upper-respiratory tract, kidneys and lungs. I am not yet a doctor, still a med student, and this is a RARE condition, so please take this with a grain of salt!

my son for the whole part of this year suffered with first seemed to be severe panic attack while away in college, was feeling loss sensation on part of his body, couldn't speak and felt chest pressure with heart palpitations and like "was having a heart attack and impending doom." Taken to er and bloodsugar and ekg came back ok. and informed er docs went through similar when in school too and needed to learn relaxation, placed on xanax which he and I didn't like since it can be addicting and knew it couldn't be panic attacks because he never had shown anxiety like this ever. It continued with late night calls of him having difficulty breathing, heart racing and headaches and vision loss and numbness to parts of face and head. Brought him home and had MRI head and various bloodworks ,echo, ekgs, emgs and haltor monitor placed and everything came back ok,mind you he was diagnosed year before with chorea athetosis and went off his meds for awhile,so all the neurologist did was increase his med. Returned to school and finally had him visit ENT doc and listened to his complaints thoroughly and said he wasn't having panic attacks, did a nasal exam, knew he was having severe sinusitis, placed him on strong antibiotics and nasonex ,had a CT scan showed he was full of cysts in his sinuses and deviated septum, and the antibiotics didn't ease his cysts or infection any. He finally after 2 weeks had a septoplasty and endo nasal surgery and has to do saline nasal rinses, his vision immediately returned back to normal, where even his glasses weren't helping him anymore, and after 2 days was able to sleep flat in bed again and not panic anymore and not have problems breathing anymore. Still gets residual anxiety bouts but is able to control it much better, hope you all get to feeling better,I know what my son went thru for months was heartbreaking to see and hear and I tried to be with him as much I could to help and find the help he severely needed and it was scary to not know what was causing it and he was even afraid he had cancer or something that was incurable and I didn't want to hear it was panic and anxiety, knew it had to be something else and asked to get to the bottom of this and try to find a solution and yes we had insurance but had to still pay so much out of pocket but that didn't matter, just wanted to get him back to his life again and not see him so ill. I hope and pray you find the help you need.

In 2009, after working an overnight shift, I suffered from left eye pain and pressure.  It started on a Friday so I waited until Monday to go to the eye doctor.  He prescribed me some eye drops and said it was dry eyes. I used the drops but on Wednesdaymy the color left my left eye. I was seeing in black and white. I raced back to the doctor, whom gave me all kinds of vision tests and scheduled me for a MRI. By the end of the day my vision was gone in my left eye. He also scheduled me an appointment with the neuropthamalogist, whom i saW anddiagnosed me with optic neuritis. So the weekend went by, I still had the pain and pressure but I was taking Ibruprofen to help with the discomfort. So it's finally time for my MRI, 2 weeks later. I called anxiously on Monday for my results, the nurse said the results are in and were placed on his desk, he will call you to discuss them. No call back. I called Tuesday, the nurse says I'll give him the msg., No call back. I called on Wed. Twice!!! The second time the nurse said here he comes I'll grab him for you. He gets on the phone and says your MRI looks good you just had a small mucous cyst that should disolve  on its own. Of course I am upset and say what do I suppose to do meanwhile, I can't see! He replies that he'll get the nurse to make an appt with the nerosurgeon, which would be NEXT Friday. So I went to the neurosurgeon, he looked at the MRI and immediately sent me for lab work X-ray a chest xray. He told me that my sphenoid sinuses were infected and he sent me to the ear, nose, and throat doctor that day. I saw the the ENT doctor and he looked so sad for me. He told me that all of my 4 sinuses were Infected and the infected mucous mass had been sitting on my optic nerve which caused my vision loss. He also consulted one of the eye doctors in the practice. They agreed to take me to surgery that day. I was so afraid I prayed the whole way to the hospital. I have my vision in the right eye and praying for. My vision to come back in my left eye .I regret I wasted so much time with the first doctor that didn't have a clue to what he was doing.

i think it is Nasonex of why you are getting blurred vision, i was taking it for 6 days when my left eye blurry episode happened, that lasted 20 mins...it looked like the corner of my eye had a beveled mirror of blurryness to the far leftside...i stopped taking it as this never happened before and i am not taking anything else.
