Y'all I have the same reflex at night. I am terrified of vomiting to the point it ruining my life. Sometime I feel like I'm dreaming about gagging so I gag but I'm not sure. It's so annoying. I do use throat spray to numb my throat but once it starts I get worried about going to sleep again. it doesn't happen if I'm awake. Help!!!!!

I have the same problem, it's been for years, 6 now. No I don't have a fear of throwing up. I do have anxiety issues. I believe it's connected to hyperhidrosis, a thyroid problem

Having read everyone's posts we all seem to have 1) something irritating our throat (acid reflux or phlegm) AND 2) a fear of Vomiting. I've always had problem 2 and problem 1 has been off and on since middle school. My acid reflex seems to have a pretty high correlation with stressful times in my life.

I'm going to seek new acid reflux medicine options today...but I wish I didn't live in fear of vomiting. Every time I feel any discomfort in my stomach, which is at least once a day, I plunge into an anxious nightmare of where am I going to have to run to throw up. As someone pointed out though, I only really throw up when I'm sick.

I feel both really sad but supported to read other people are struggling similarly to me.

If anyone has a phobia therapist they recommend, please share!

I had an episode where I was sick and needed to throw up. In doing so I think I may have scraped my uvula and am now getting the sensation of gaging or throwing up. This post really helped me put the puzzle together. I hope it goes away soon

I have a similar feeling. My doctor says its a heavy metal problem. Try taking cilantro or chlorella and see if that helps. Let me know if it helps. I'm not a doctor, but this is what helped me.

I've had the same feeling!!! In fact, I'm actually feeling it right now - that's why I was looking it up and found this. At least it's helpful to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. I've been reading the responses, and it seems like everyone who gets this sensation also has a fear of tossing their cookies. I've personally gone for a span of seven years without throwing up, then I finally did, and now it has been about three years. I REALLY don't want it to happen again! I am also a middle schooler, so I don't know if I'm getting this problem really early or not. I've had this problem once or twice before, and I could usually "wash" it down with water and be able to get back to sleep, but it's never been this bad before. I'm really confused with what's going on in my body right now, and - quite frankly - a little bit scared if this is going to be a major problem or setback later in my life... if any of you internet people ave any information on this and/or ways to solve it, it would be very much appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

I have the same issue and also have a vomiting phobia. It's caused by anxiety made worse by fear of throwing up. The more you focus on it the more it will get worse! Try relaxation techniques or anxiety meds if necessary.

I am the SAME way. Lately it's taking over my life! I gag all the time! Lately I can't stop thinking about it so it's always there. I really do think it has something to do with acid reflux. I just got Nexium and going to try it out. My appetite is sucks cause I'll be hungry but feel like gagging so won't want to eat. It's the worst. I know it also has a lot to do with anxiety... Which is the nervous feeling. Good luck to all of us!!!

I'm sure all of these posts are quite old.. but i have actually been having the same issue for the past couple of months. i feel a gagging sensation but i dont actually gag. i am nervous about throwing up so i have been sleeping in the bathroom. im not sure what makes someone have emetophobia....i dont think mine is that severe. i am now starting to feel that heaving sensation in my stomach which is uncomfortable. if anyone could shoot a reply so i can find out how you have gotten over it that would be great. already been to the GI doctor and had so many tests done...nothing is wrong physically. atleast not in my tummy

I cant believe people have the same thing as me. Its worse for me in the mornings i have found. Its something i cant describe and no one seems to understand. Its a feelint in my throat like its phlem which neees to be bought up. Sometimes it feels quite grissley and makes me cough which makes me gag. The feeling is horrible. It makes me want to eat and drink when in reality im not hungry or thirsty its just to take my mind off it or to try and stop it. It is not a very nice feeling. Its alot to do with the mind but trying to forget about it is easier said than done.
