I had back surgery 6 years ago and never regained the feeling in my one leg. But, it doesn't mean you can't. I had nose surgery 35 years ago, where there was numbness in the nose, and got the feeling back after 20 years. I know that sounds crazy, but don't give up hope. Just keep moving.

I had sugery on L4 and L5, on Feb 9th of 2011. I did have numbness in right hip all the way down to my toes! Walked really funny, cuz I was in pain.. I only got numbness in my left leg after the surgery! It seems like the numbness switched sides. And on this day 12/01/12, my left leg from my knee is numb to my toes... It is really hard to walk sometimes because you toes are numb. Then when I cross my legs to put socks on, I get really bad craps in my left foot, sometimes they hurt so bad I cry!!! Recently at work, and I do work in retail too, I work at at grocery store. Unloading trucks, stocking and also helping when they need someone on the front end.. Last night starting having pains in my back, but it didn't feel like it was where I had surgery. I felt the scar, and said oh no, lets hope not again... I felt it to see how far up my back it went! I had 25 staples in my back from surgery.. But my toes on the left leg are always numb.... Always feels like pins and needles when you move them. Was really having a problem if I bent over for a period of time. It's like my back clicked and I was say owwww...  Co-workers look and wonder whats wrong.  I tell them, don't worry I will be okay:)

I had an ATV accident on the 18th of November this year. I'm 19 years old and hope I won't have to deal with the things people are saying they've been through. I had a T-11, T-12, and L-1 fractures. I noticed in the hospital, my left leg was completely numb. The numbness went away in about two weeks and now I'm feeling it again. Went back last week and they have me a shot for the pain, and said to come back if it continues to hurt. It's hurting even more right now but I'm not sure if I should go back or not because they didn't do anything the last time I went in that helped with the pain and numbness. Any ideas on what I should do? Or how to get the pain and numbness to go away? Thanks or the time

I had back surgery to remove a hernia between L5 and S1 in 2005. My left foot, toes and sole, have been numb ever since. Eight years later, I no longer hope that this will get better one day.

Hi, I had 2 spianl operations within 18 months and since the last op May 2012 I have had numbness in the lower left leg which is getting worse and now moving to up towards my thigh and groin, and the leg is getting increasingly weaker.

I was told that this is due to quite severe nerve damage. For some people the numbness disappears within 6 months or so but I have been told mine will probabaly be a permanent state, I does worry me that I may eventually lose the use of my leg but i'm scared to go back to my GP or my neaurosurgeon as I just don't want anymore operations.

I was wondering if perhaps physio may improve my leg strength so think i'm going to appraoch aphysiotherapist first. Anyone suffering from this has my full empathy. It's wierd, the leg is numb but at the same time painful with almost constant pins and needles and sharp "electric shock" type pains. I find the longer I sit for te worse it gets so have to get up and walk around every 15 minutes (makes my job quite difficult) but luckily have very understanding employers.

Whilst i wouldn't wish this on anyone I am glad that i'm not alone in this and other people have the same experiences and understand.

I just had lamenectomy done 2 weeks ago lower lumbar L4L5 area @ Univ MD.  Prior to surgery I had back pain constantly for over 2 years enabling me to exercise, bend, walk, get dressed.  So now after surgery I am experiencing numbness and tingling in my left leg and foot. My big toe is completely numb and feels strange especially to walk on our carpet, my leg feels funny to touch as if its asleep.  I am praying this will too go away after more time.  I have my first follow up tomorrow, will keep everyone posted.

I was 20 years old when my injury took place for the first time. A very crippling lower injury. Working a night shift in a rock quarry. This injury was ignored by my boss and I had no insurance at the time so no medical help was available. I am now 54 and have been living in horrible pain  of nerve damage. After Ins. MRI shows L4-L5 problems that may or may not be repairable. Now degenerative disc disorder is what Im living with, which can be unbearable at times. Please take care to maintain good posture, lift with your legs not your back, and never overwork your spine! I wish everyone good luck.
