Spleen function and problems

Hi. Spleen acts a filter against foreign organisms and it filters out old red blood cells and recycles them. Spleen manufactures red blood cells toward the end of fetal life. Spleen also acts as a blood reservoir. Many people think spleen is an unnecessary organ. However, as you can see, it has very important functions. If you have no spleen, you are at risk for life-threatening infections. Abnormal grooves on the surface of your spleen cause no problems. More important are extra spleens. If you remove the spleen, these little extra spleens may grow and do the job of removed spleen. If you can`t remove these extra spleens, certain spleen problems may return.
