I've had this for three years now. It hurts especially after talking a lot or laughing hard. I saw a doctor about it and was told it was costochronditis. I take Motrin for it. Heat especiallly helps. I have a microwavable heat pack...don't make it too hot...that I use. Also use a heat pad some nights , and icy/hot helps too, although I only use this at home because the smell is strong! Not much is known about it, unfortunately!!!!!! Also, standing in a hot shower helps as well! It is well known that heat helps with blood flow! It IS painful and I thought I was having a heart attack...more needs to be learned about this and finding a treatment!

I had the flu the middle of February which led into pnemonia and have had chest pain ever since.  I have seen over 20 Doctors and have had many tests, procedures and ever orifice of my body probed.  I still do not have an answer from the doctors as to why I hurt all of the time.  I was startting to think that I was the only one!  I'm glad to find this forum as proof that I am not along in this struggle of getting back to health.

I have had medical doctors say that it was due to stress and anxiety so I went to two differnt Psycologists that told me it was a medical issue.  I'm told that my heart, lungs and circulatory systems are in good health. Leaving me with one question.  What the hell is my chest still hurting.  If I get an answer I willl gladly pass it along in hopes that the information might help some one.

I get this pain to. Offten when i get to drunk and pass out on my stomach with my hand balled up in a fist, tucked up under my chest. The way you sleep may factor in to your chest pain. How old is your bed..?

Sternum pain is consistent with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was diagnosed with RA 2 yrs ago. For a year, i have battled the pain in the sternum. It can also hurt in my back, too; as well as ribs and collar bone. I believe i am understanding your pain because you have described everything i tried to tell my drs. Costochondritis is a result of RA and its excruciating. Steroids help as well as diclofenac (nsaid) cream / gel. It will pass, but it will be back. My sympathy goes out to all that experience it.

Hi there! I recently had similar sounding chest pain and found out I had a non hodgkins lymphoma tumor in my mediastinal area. This cancer affects young women primarily, and I was in perfect health otherwise. Hope it’s already cleared whatever you had! But wanted to through out my personal experience since I read this almost a year ago when the pain started and I’m now 1/2 way through chemo!

I don’t want to freak anyone out but I had a pain like this and it was a cancer tumor growing in my chest area. Its called primary mediastinal large B cell lymphoma. And if you haven’t gotfen your pain diagnosed please go to a dr and be checked for this!

Second that - Mine happened because of a huge knot in my right trapezoid, pulls into the neck.... ect until... I did a little light streching to the trap / neck and it released...hurt a little weird when it released though.

I’m 65 and having the same problem. I was told I have a diaphragmatic hernia on my last CT scan. Wondering if this might be related

What does it mean when your chest feels like it's pulsating, and goes into your back? Every time I move the pain follows.
