My boyfriend says that everytime he takes his One a Day for Men, He gets this horrible pain in his stomach right under his rib. He even tried not taking it for a couple days and the pain stopped, then once he took it again the pain came back. What could be causing this?

You know, I used to have problems with having to urinate frequently in the evenings. Then a month ago I stopped taking multivitamins and this problem completely went away. I used to always take the multivitamin with supper, so I figured that this was the cause. Anyway, I think multivitamins are too much trouble and a balanced diet is totally the answer. Seems to me that a multivitamin is like a shortcut, and shortcuts just don't work. If they did, then they wouldn't be shortcuts, they'd just be "the way".

Do NOT take Centrum or One a Days or any cheap grocery store vitamin, especially Costco's. These vitamins have a coating that will not digest in the stomach. You won't be absorbing the vitamin. I've heard many, many stories about these vitamins being found whole in septic/sewer systems.
A whole food vitamin/powder shouldn't make your stomach hurt. It may, but it shouldn't. Try a green food powder found at your vitamin shoppe.

I started taking One a Day multivitamin for women +50. Each time after taking a pill, I get varying degree of stomach pain. The other evening, the pain lasted more than 2 hours. My adult daughter said she had similar experience. Reading this website, this problem is not unique to me or my daughter. I used take multivitamin called "Pharmaton", a Swiss made product in a soft capsule form for three years while in overseas, and never had stomach pain like this. Do anyone know what is the cause of this pain?

I just realized myself that One a Day vitamins were the cause of the massive stomach aches I'd been getting.
We're talking intense pain where you can't lie down or even move. Vomiting, sweats. This lasts for over 12 hours or more.
I never thought in a million years that vitamins could actually harm you but these things are dangerous.

I always thought that Centrum was one of the best vitamins out there but they give me the stomach pain too so I stopped taking them. My local health food store has a herbologist/nutritionist there that owns the place and she makes up her own vitamins made with whole foods. You have to take more of them a day, but they do not make me sick at all.

I get major stomach pains for more than 30 minutes after taking this product, even on a full stomach! I certainly hope the benefits advertised are true, otherwise I'm going through the pain for nothing.

Please let me know if you do reap the benefits of what it claims to do. I would like to hear about how well it works. Thank you!

Wow, I started taking a multivitamin 3 days ago, the first day I felt a bit of discomfort after my noon meal, the next day I had it with a banana for breakfast with a litre of water and I spent the rest of the day with cramps similiar to food poisoning up until bedtime, the third day I had it with my noon meal which was baked salmon , long grain rice, green salad and a litre of water, I then spent another 8 hours with stomach cramps, have decided I eat a healthy enough diet i dont need all the pain that goes with them, there in the recycle bin now

I was having exactly the same problem. I found the following tricks helped a lot:
1) Take in the middle of a meal.... not before or after
2) Drink LOTS of fluids with your meal. I personally drink a glass of water before, a glass of milk during and a glass of water after.
3) Break the pill in half.
I'm led to believe that the stomach is caused by a combination of acid build up and not being able to digest the pill properly. If these tricks don't work, you'd probably want to talk to a doctor to make sure you're not doing more harm than good.
Hope this helps!

I have also been getting stomach pains from taking the men's one-a-day and would have to deal with the painful cramps for a few hours
Experimented a lot and noticed the pain is nearly non-existent by following #1 and 2 like the previous poster has said.
hope that helps anyone still wondering

Thank you so much for posting the pain under the rib problem. I didn't start having the pains until I had been taking the multi vitamins for about two weeks. The pain was on my right side under my rib and went clear to my back. The pain would come and go and wake me up in the middle of the night. It seemed worse when I ate pork and fatty foods. I did research on the internet and it sounded like gall bladder problems. After about four weeks and four nights in a row waking up with pain I went to the Dr. About the same time I connected the dots and thought about the pain starting after I started taking the vitamins. I stopped taking them. It has been a little more than two weeks since I stopped taking them and I think the pains have stopped. I haven't had any pain for a week. In the meantime my Dr. has sent me for two tests for gall bladder problems. I keep telling everyone that I think it was the vitamins and no is was buying it. I decided to see if I could find anyone else with a similar problem. I am supposed to go for another gall bladder test, but I think I will wait until next week since I now know that other people have had the same problem.

Same problem here. I tried Centrum many times and time after time it has proven to be the cause of my stomach pain. It starts withing 5-10 mins of taking Centrum and lasts for an hour or so. Tried taking it before/after meals, nothing works.
