A few nights ago I was awaken from sleep with a terrible pain in both arms. I initially thought that I had slept on them but in a few minutes I experienced intense pain across the top of my back across the shoulder blades. Then the pain radiated to my ribs and lasted for about 5 - 10 minutes. I thought that I was having a heart attack. I'm a 50 year old female with no previous problems. I don't have high blood pressure or cholesterol and am in general good health. The episode scared me so bad that I went to the emergency room where I was thoroughly checked out. All tests showed that it wasn't a heart attack. The doctor suggested it was anxiety. It happened again 2 nights later. I tried to remain calm during the attack but I'm baffled as to what it could be.
