I am 23 years old and took BC for 7 years and recently stopped about 7 months ago. It really has been horrible. I'm so happy to hear the similar stories and know that I am not alone. I have gained about 15 pounds in the last 3 months. I have excessive hair growth (always been an issue but now worse) and developed horrible acne, both regular and cystic. Note: I have NEVER struggled with acne or weight gain in my life so this is pretty devastating. I got my blood tested 5 months ago and the results were high glucose (pre-diabetes) and high testosterone. The doctor gave me a tentative diagnosis of PCOS even though there were no cysts in my ovaries. (I have been seeing a new endocrinologist and she said that BC can prevent cysts from growing). So I am getting another ultrasound to see if any have appeared. I am getting my blood work tested again in a couple weeks and then I will be going back on BC! The doctor prescribed me metformin for pre-diabetes and spironolactone for hormones. I have stopped everything recently so my tests will be accurate. This has been a nightmare and I personally don't think there is a way around these side effects. I eat SO healthy and work out 5 times a week at least! I have been taking fish oil, multivitamin, biotin, and have ordered evening primrose and B12 to try. Good luck everyone!

I have also gained weight and have never had a weight issue. I went off the pill just over 2 months ago. Please keep me posted on your blood work. I'm waiting on insurance to kick in then I can talk to a doctor. This is so frustrating!:/

Hi everyone. I've posted here before.
I was on Ocella/Yaz for many years. Got off it and gained 40 pounds in less than 6 months, sometimes gaining 5 pounds in one week. I kept the weight on for almost 2 years.
I tried everything and researched everything and couldn't find a solution. I finally thought of insulin resistance because my family has it really bad, but my blood glucose is fine and I'm not diabetic. Turns out I'm very insulin resistance and I guess the birth control hid, caused, or controlled it? Not sure. But I went on metformin earlier this year and I've lost 25 of pounds. I'm only 15 pounds from my post weight gain weight. It treated my insulin problemsand made the weight come off without working out. But I have to stay on it forever pretty much to keep my insulin resistance under control and hope that diabetes does not come as a result of it.
Have your doctors check your insulin levels, not glucose. Insulin specifically. And if it's not that, then hopefully everyone can figure out a way to get healthy and feel better.
Take care everyone!

I was on the Nuva ring for 5 years and about 4 months ago got off. Since then I have gain 25 pounds. I work out regularly and my diet has not changed. After getting off the birth control I missed my period two months in a row and the weight gain began. I was not pregnant and now get my period somewhat regularly. I'm very depressed about the weight gain and still work out but nothing is changing. I plan to go to the doctor soon but refuse to take birth control now. Hearing all of these comments help and I hope to find the reason for this. Good luck !

Hi, did you try getting back on the pill again? How did that work for you? Been going thru the same thing and I'm strongly considering going back on the pill! Thanks so much!

I did get back on the pill. I managed to stop staying so bloated and lost about 10 lbs. This is over the span of about 5 months. I plan to add metformin next month to see if this may help with some additional weight loss. Sad to say, I feel better being back on the pill. Immediatly after stopping I started having crazy mood swings and restlessness which is very odd for me. Just have a good long talk wit your doctor, and if they are too busy to listen, find another one.

Good luck

HI All.
I too was on BC desogen for 10+yrs. And stopped 10 months ago, to give my body a rest. I am now 32 yrs old. I was always 115-120 pds and gained 10+ pounds since then. I too can't seem to loose the weight and being off BC discovered i have pmdd.

I also have high glucose (pre-diabetic?) There has to be some correlation.

I decided to start BC again just to see if this effects my pre diabetes and weight gain. I will keep you posted

I have had a similar experience, I have gained quite a bit of weight since going off BC 10 years ago. Trying to figure out the best way to lose weight, I never had an issue with weighy before and am even thinking of going back on the pill!

I hope this helps many of you... I've been on BC for 30+ years and just stopped about 4 weeks ago. By week 2 I was horribly bloated and felt miserable. I saw all of these posts and started to do a little research of my own -- I refused to allow my body to "blow up" over a stupid pill. I discovered from an earlier post that someone found relief with Evening Primrose. I researched that and decided to try it. I also researched "natural diuretics" thinking that this bloating HAD to be water weight (since we were all eating less but continuing to gain). Low and behold I came across Dandelion Root -- a natural diuretic (with no side effects)! I started taking both 4 days ago. Initially, nothing happened. So I went online again and researched dosage. The Dandelion Root (in pill form) can be taken up to 3x a day (2 pills each) for a total of 6 pills. I take the same amount of the Evening Primrose. Well, by day 4 my stomach had gone down, no more bloating, no more cramps/discomfort or tender breasts. I bought both herbs at our local natural/organic grocery store. Hope I can reach as many people as I can because the weight gain and other issues are pure misery! Good luck.

I took maca root about a month after coming off the pill. I took it to level out and balance my hormones. I ended up gaining 12 lbs. Think the maca root caused it. Researched it and it also causes weight gain. However, it did balance my hormones and I felt normal. I stopped taking it after a few months. Still can't loose the weight I gained even though I am working out consistently.
