Hi guys.
Thought I would post my story of complete total uvula removaljust to see if it helps answer anyone else's questions.

Just to add I had my adanoids removed at a very early age. I was told this was because I simply wasn't eating enough. Funny though I'm now 6' 3" and nearly 50 years old.

Over the years my uvula had steadily grown partly due to it always being a good length of 1.5" and me constantly have to clear my throat to stop me gagging.

Even I had become sick of myself clearing my own throat.

So surgery was arranged.... I nice chap examined me and said he would shorten the uvula. I said do what he thought was needed. (why would anyone say that to a surgeon lol)

After surgery, magic! No pain in the uvula and err....infarct no uvula at all..........

Well it stopped all that damp throat clearing c*ap anyway.

Today I'm laid in bed with pneumonia rolling around like a shark with long John silvers wooden leg stuck in his wind pipe slowly drowning in my own phlegm because usual windpipe clearing practices don't work when all your uvula has left the building.

Please excuse my sarcasm I'm British!

So yes most surgery has its good and bad points

Well guys, just be careful what you wish for!

Hello do you think he might have acid reflux issues maybe I had my uvala removed and tonsils I wanted a partial removal of uvala but dr removed the whole thing. I'm on 6 weeks and it still feels agitated I think my taste buds scrape on pallets now which didn't happen before. Frustrating does he have that problem. Maybe he needs to wear a mask if he works outside on the elements like I do. I haven't been coughing up phlegm to much maybe a few times. I'm sorry he's going through that I hope things are getting better. How long did recovery take. I'm 49 yrs old and had to start working 3 days after surgery. Not sure if that slowed down my recovery time. I've been stressed about this whole thing. Take care

Had UPPP surgery 15 years ago d/t apnea. Suffered the same effects as mentioned on this site. Never remove the Uvula! It works to drain saliva away from the windpipe. I choke constantly to this day. There is a procedure where an ENT can 'rough up' both sides of either edge of tissue where the uvula was and sew it together. I won't do it as I have all the problems I need right now! But it's out there. UPPP can really mess you up for life!
