I have read all your posts with great interest. My knee and ankle swelling is most definitely caused by over-use due to sporting activities etc so have been searching other websites for clues. There appear to be a multitude of knee-related "diseases" so I can imagine that many can be misdiagnosed. I did however find a very informative website that might be of some use to you - its called ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed
In the mean time, cut out acidic foods like cooked tomatoes, curries, chillies, oranges and pineapples. Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice (yuk) , which is actually alkaline, is a great acid buster for those who suffer from gout. Drink as many lemons as you can handle in a day if the problem is severe. It works like a charm. Also, carbonated drinks destroy cartilage so dont touch them. Doctors don't tell you this because they would rather prescribe drugs.
Good luck and good health,
Niccim

Saw another rheumatologist today, but basically he went donw the same route as the first. There are relatively few causes of single joint arthritis, and one of them is as a side effect of psoriasis, so despite the fact that there is no family history of psoriasis and I have no symptoms, they are trying to shoe-horn me into that diagnosis. Do you have any symtpoms of psoriasis, or lower back pain, ankylosing spondylitis is another potential cause of mono-arthritis.
I have some small patches of rough skin which the Dr seemed to think was psoriasis, so I've asked to be referred to a dermatologist to rule them out as I think the doctors are completely going up a blind alley.... When psoriasis is ruled out, maybe they'll actually get that out of their heads and look at all the symptoms....
Hope you improve soon.....

My symptoms were swollen calf, discomfort behind knee, and later, palpable pain upper, inner thigh. Felt like I was squeezing a squash ball behind my knee when I bent at the knees. When I walked, each step felt like the calf was being pumped up like a bicycle tire. I thought it was something to do with the lymph nodes. Boy was I wrong.
Result? Four blood clots in my leg.
Not saying you have that, but don't assume your aches and pains are the result of a workout. Being sedentary, even for a few days, is enough to cause a blood clot, which is why they say to walk around on a long flight.

Could any of these conditions possibly be gout? if so, cherries are good for this condition (atleast six a day). I know it's sounds strange..but if it's gout, it will help some!
Unfortunately, it's common to frequently urinate after eating so many cherries...but not harmful :)
Good Luck!

Have any of you with unexplained joint problems had any root canals or other dental work done recently or have amalgam fillings? Google Hal Huggins (books and website). another thought is Lyme disease. I actually came to this site because I woke up with red tender ankle on the inside (medial malleoulus) yesterday. It onlyhurts to walk and there's redness, swelling amd warmth. At first I thought it was a bite but am thinking otherwise. Will go see the Dr tomorrow if not better but hope the story doesn't end up like all the above. Thanks for posting your stories.
