Hi, I have the same symptoms! My left knee swelled up 6 month ago and has not gone down since. Then my 2 ankles and now my right knee is swelling. The rheumatologist has given me a diagnosis of undifferentiated inflammatory arthritis which means he doesn't know what is causing it. All my blood tests are seronegative for rheumatoid arthritis (although it is possible to still have RA and test negative). He has put me on sulfasalazine, but it is not working yet, although apparently it can take 2-3 months to work.

Hello, like the rest of you who have posted, I am experiencing severe swelling in both knees but more prominate on the right. The onset was sudden. It, however, is affecting my whole leg. I notice pain just above my tailbone across to the side and front of my hip. The pain seems to go down the top/lateral side (outside) of my leg and knee and continues into the back/ lateral (outer) side of my calf into the top/lateral (outside) of ankle. The swelling is severe around the knee- the sides and top of knee.  I am a Dietitian and wonder if any of this could be related to an allergy of some sort such as gluten, or fruit or vegetables that were treated with  pesticides and consumed without adequate washing . I hope one of us discovers the answer soon.  It seems as though the doctors are at a loss for the answer with all the tests coming back negative. In the mean time I will continue to pray to God for our situation.  We need mental and physical relief.  God bless

i ahve the same symptoms with both my knees and ankles. including my left shoulder and neck and back..ive had blood tests opon blood tests and nothing shows up.. i wake up screaming in pain somedays.. ive had xrays andnothing .. ive been researching it and came up with fibromyalgia.. fibromyalgia doesnt show in blood tests or xrays. drs are very reluctant to diagnose it. opon researchign the way they diagose it is theres 12 points on the body if they all sometimes hurt or flare up its most likely fibro.. finding a dr who specializes it is a big problem.. im on medicaid and they have the worst drs. i cant work i cant stand or walk somedays. its very frustrating . check into fibro, hope its not that but pretty much you have the same symptoms as i do. good luck ..

Alright I want you all to listen to me. For 7 years I have been struggling and found myself spending the entire summer in a wheelchair with a team of doctors unable to figure out what's wrong. Here's my story and it's a long one...

This may not be your story... at least this point of it as not everyone gets a high unexplained fever, so don't think you have to have gone through this part of it. i collapsed after walking off stage. I had a 106 fever and was taken to the hospital and no one could figure out what was wrong so i lay there an entire week. Fever eventually went away but the symptoms that I have had since ... well you know what they are because you're all talking about them.

You don't need to have a 106 unexplained fever to have this. You just need one of these symptoms. Wandering Bizarre Swellings of Joints - My knees and big toe would get angry for no reason. blow up and be excruciatingly painful where if the sheet was touching it i would wake up screaming. Yet... my Uric Acid level was normal. They still assumed Gout and they assumed wrong... because in 7-10 days it would go away and my KNEE would blow up like a melon. Unable to bend, horrible stabbing pains that would last 2 weeks with no rhyme or reason and just like that disappear... and then low and behold... my ankle would get so big that it was like a grapefruit. Again... i didn't do anything. I didn't push it, twist it. It was normal when i fell asleep and suddenly there it was. Then it would go into my hips where I couldn't lay on my sides and finally my lower back was so bad, you could not touch my spine at times. Finally ... this year it all came together and for 7 months ... the Knee... Ankle... Toes and hips all went huge, at the same time along with heel, arches and Achilles heel. Tests for swelling called your C-Reactive Protein are between 0-3 and anything over "3" is considered high. Anything in the 5-7 range... very high. Mine came up as just under 100. Brain Fog. I wake in the morning my brain is in a fog. I can't think very well... for someone that used to have an IQ well over 150 there were times i couldn't remember the name of the person i was talking to even though i saw them last week. The brain fog can get so thick that at times my head feels like its puffed up like a balloon. I would go into the fridge and wonder why on earth I was in there. Looking around hmm... um... thirsty? no... um... cheese? milk? no idea... go to the supermarket. forget all my groceries. So i'll make a list okay. I know i need these 10 things... write em down... get to the 3rd thing and not be able to remember what items 4-10 were to write down so i don't forget when I get to the supermarket. Itchy - i got the skin crawlies sometimes. Thought perhaps I had slept in too many skanky hotels on the road. It almost feels like there's something under my skin moving around. Persistent Low Grade Fever at night - Persistent below normal temps in morning - I wake up my temp is supposed to be 98.6. Instead it is 97.7-97.9. By night time I get feeling out of breath. Usually i take my temp and it's about 99.6. Heart Palpitations, unexplained dizziness, headaches and neck aches. fibromyalgia and the worst fatigue that makes me unable to even think about getting out of bed to get in the shower. After 7 years of battling and spending my entire summer in a wheelchair and missing Christmas, Thanksgiving and spending my birthday in bed I finally know what is thanks to the kindest Ophthalmologist I ever met who somehow ... someway, figured out what every doctor on earth could not. And I bet more than 80% of you on here are on some awful unnecessary Rheumatoid medication that will never get you better, because you've taken a test for this already and it has come up negative. You have... Borrelia burgdorferi For 7 years I have taken 5 different tests for Lyme Disease and come up negative. I also never had the "bullseye rash" as only 20% of people actually do. Then my ophthalmologist said that the tests for Western Blot... even the really good ones... are so pathetic and the only reason you haven't been given a real one is because the insurance companies don't pay for it. So I saved up 275 bucks and went to Igenex labs in California under my ophthalmologists suggestion and had them send me a Lyme kit in the mail. Took it to my local hospital who drew the blood and they sent it back and low and behold.. I was positive. I went to a lyme specialist. You cannot go to a regular doctor. They will not know how to handle this. Trust me when I tell you that if your knee is blown up like a Buick... a month of Doxycyclene isn't going to cure you. For those of you who said you found some relief from Gluten Free diets, it does help. I can tell you why it does. The Borrelia Burgdorferi are like little amoebas. They hang around in your blood stream and float around all day eating sugar and yeast and starch. You have to... sorry to say... say goodbye to all sugars of any kind. All wheat. All Starches. All Glutens. No juice, no watermelon, all of it goes byebye. I had to give up everything that I love. No rice, no fries, no pasta (though the brown rice pasta has gotten to the point that they make it better than Barilla). Quinoa and Brown Rice products with no starch and no yeast and no cane sugars. Stevia and Xylitol are your only options for sweetners These little parasites are bigger than the ventricles that your blood flow travels in. So when they start to really reproduce (which they will for no apparent reason...often), they get to your knees and the blood vessels are thinner than the size of these little Lyme buggers so they get stuck and suddenly your knee is the size of a honeydew. or your ankle or your toes. then they really bad and get into your brain causing the short term memory loss and then into your pancreas causing all sorts of issues and into your heart where you constantly get these palpitations. if you are not chronic yet, then you will not have these symptoms... yet. But you will... trust me you will. Is this knee you? I haven't looked at this page yet but saw some familiar photos...

I will tell you that it may take years for it to go away and the antibiotics are horrible. However if you do have this, I can promise you... it will continue getting worse and will never get better without a Lyme Disease specialist. Don't ever let a doctor tell you that his Lyme disease test is broader than most and covers everything. Mine did and I spent 3 years longer in pain than I should have. Go to Igenex or some other sort of testing that does specifically only for Lyme. It's easy to take the test but the 275 bucks for the basic lyme panel is rather painful. I can tell you that after a few months on the diet and the antibiotics and the tinctures and the vitamins and the B-12 daily injections, I still feel completely miserable. This takes sometimes 2 years to make go away and it will get worse before it gets better due to "die off" which makes you septic. Good luck to you all and hopefully I saved some of you from a life of chronic unexplained agony.

I am having very similar issues for about 2 years now, but when and how frequently they occur is unpredictable.

I have plantar fasciitis that acts up usually between 4 and 6 month intervals in my right foot, and will last 3-4 weeks.

About every 4-6 months, my right hand will swell up so bad for as long as 5 weeks that I cannot even bend fingers on my right hand, then gradually it will subside until normal again

Then on my left foot, again unpredictable, my ankle will be sore for a couple days as it gradually swells until the fourth or fifth day which is usually the worst, and by that time my left knee has also swollen to the point I cannot fully bend or extend my knee. This happens every 7=9 months, and usually lasts 2 1/2 to 3 weeks by the time the swelling subsides enough so I can walk semi normal again.

Any insight would be helpful, as 3 different doctors all seem to be under the impression I am just getting arthritis.

I am so glad that I read your post, You have the exact same symptoms as I do, even the inflammation in my tailbone. I have had fluid drained from both knees, then given a shot in both knees of steroids which helped very much, for 4 days. This has been happening for over 5 months and Im desparate. Since your post was over a year ago, would you post any updates PLEASE.

I have the same thing. It's annoying because I can go up to 2 weeks in bed wothout being able to put pressure or even walk on it. Sometimes it just happens, I can go up to month without the stiffness and out of no where swelling and stiffness accurs in both my ankle and knee.

How do you get tested for this? I asked them once before they say it came back negative. I'm in pain all the time. My knees are the size if a soft ball and I weigh only 150# at 4'ft 10" the pain is killing me.
