Many times, the cause of lip swelling cannot be found at all and the swelling just subsides on its own.
The most common causes of the swelling are allergic reactions from sensitivity to food, medicines, lipsticks, airborne irritants.

If you can realize where the swelling’s coming from and eliminate the irritant, the swelling usually goes down.

A condition called angioedema could be causing swelling outbreaks. Herpes will often cause your lips to swell but you would probably get the blisters or cold sores around mouth as well. Different disorders can cause mouth and lips to swell but these can’t be diagnosed online and you should visit a dermatologist if the swelling hasn’t subsided by now.

Corticosteroid ointments are usually given if it has been determined that the swelling was caused by an allergic reaction. Considering you had your new lipstick on before the swelling started, I would point my finger on it but I still think you should go and see a dermatologist if the swelling is still present. Bring the lipstick as well.
