I don't think my case is as severe; I get random twitches i my temple. I think I've had twitching on both sides. However I do not get any unusual pains or headaches. I will note that while running for longer durations I get pain in my jaw. I assume that it's a lack of oxygen to the muscle.
On more rare occasions, I will get some dizziness that's enough to make me want to lay down and rest.

In my younger years I did panic and think that it was a tumor, but now I've come to accept it and think that it's not so severe.
A funny story is that I commonly have nightmares of myself loosing teeth or crushing down my jaw until my teeth break and fall out. Kinda strange.
I say this because it may be a possible link to TMJ syndrome.
I chronically get stiffness in my neck too from stress while driving on the road.

I find it difficult to believe that the quivering in my temples are linked to my jaw, but the symptoms have some similarities

I have been diagnosed with TMJ many years back. Never received any treatment for it due to almost every health insurance company not covering TMJ treatment. I have been told it is a cosmetic issue and it's not health related. What do they know, they don't suffer from it.

It has been getting worse over the past year, to the point now that when I eat anything, my temples swell up. They stick out about 1/2 to 1 full inch. with the right side being worse. This lasts for about 10-15 minutes, then the swelling goes down. I found that if I open my jaw really far, it also starts the swelling process.

The area by my ears where the lower jaw meets the upper jaw, is almost constantly sore. As the side affects get worse, I only worry more. It is refreshing to know that I am not the only one to suffer from this, though it should not be this way. There must be a way to fix this without getting shots of botox in the face. I have heard of surgery that may help the pain, though this costs several thousand dollars. Which of course is not covered by health or dental insurance. So this is not an option for me.

One person who also suffers from TMJ stated they were instructed to stay away from hard foods. Well, I have and the problem still continues. Unfortunately, I feel the only way is to stay away from solids altogether. I will try to minimize the amount of solids I eat and see what happens.

Good luck to anyone else out there that is suffering from this painful health issue.

it is probably due to lack of sleep or stress - only other thing that could cause the creepy crawly feeling would be medication. my eyelid, temple, and other random parts of my face would twitch.. the dr told me it was stress or lack of sleep but i didnt want to believe him..lol
sure enough, when i got back on track with my sleep, it helped lower some of my stress and the symptoms went away.
if you are taking any sleep medications, you might want to check those first and find an alternative.

Seems this symptom is really common--but no one really has a solution! It somehow helps to know that there are others with twitchy temples out there, though, huh?

For months now, I've had a twitch just above my ears that comes and goes every few days. It wouldn't be so bad except that once it starts, it twitches like crazy for hours on end and nothing stops it--not heat, ice, massage, relaxation, various medications... It just twitches until the muscle tires out, I guess. Sometimes the left side does it, but mostly the right--and the right side is much worse when it gets going. It's a hard, jumping twitch that other people can feel, and it keeps me awake if it's going at night. If I lay on that side, I can hear a thumping sound when it twitches!

The diagnosis from the various doctors I've seen (it's not a brain tumor or a seizure; I don't have a bloodborne illness or indications of any neurological disorders) seems to boil down to muscle tension--either in my neck or jaw. (I do clench the living heck out of my teeth at night; I've been wearing an NTI-TSS type device while I sleep to give my temple muscles a rest.) In all the places I see this temple twitching mentioned on the web, TMJ problems, clenching, anxiety and stress seem to be the common denominator, so that makes sense to me. This started with me during a really stressful time, so there you go!

Chilling out, wearing this night guard device, physical therapy, ice and massage are the prescribed course of action right now. While I'm not noticing a huge difference, at least things have stopped progressively getting worse. Not panicking about it and accepting it has helped--A LOT.

Next step if this doesn't work after a while? Botox in that muscle, I guess. Many dentists use Botox to treat TMJ disorders; my neurologist uses it to treat migraine sufferers who don't respond to anything else. Let's hope the more conservative approach works!

Hello, I have experience the twitching and the weird head sensations as well. I also suffer from anxiety which plays hell on the body in general with all sorts of weird sensations. It is frightening and concerning but I only consider it the latest in a long line anxiety symptoms from chest pains, tingling hands, muscle spasm, dizzyness, etc. By all means follow up with doc and neuro if needed. My therapist says the more I focus on it the more it happens which is true. If I am preoccupied with other things I either dont notice it or it does not happen,

I've had a weird twitch in my left temple for a few months now. Strange to see all the people here with similar problems. Wonder what it is.

I'm 18 and doctors told me I either had TMJ/Mild Arthritis in my jaw. My mother has TMJ too.
I went to the doctors because it was very bad, and hard for me to open my mouth very wide.
My jaw would lock up and click constantly.
Ive been told that I sometimes grind my teeth while sleeping too.
The reason I'm replying is because I was curious about the bug-feeling, which I do get occasionally.
I always just hoped that other people got it too sometimes, or that it was just a small sensation. But the comments here make me wonder what it is. I've never told a doctor or anything.
I also get pulsing temples and can feel a vein beating to my heart rhythm, usually when I chew very hard things.
(In this case, Halloween Starburst candies). I can feel a pressure in my head too for a while, but it goes away a few minutes after chewing.

Seeing other people post about bugs weirded me out lol.

Hi, I also suffer from a pulsating in my left temple. I am putting it down to Electromagnetic frequencies e.g. bluetooth, wi-fi, cordless telephones. I only developed the symptoms around 3 years ago which is when most of the wireless technolgies flooded the domestic markets. I find if i remove sources of emf's the symptoms are much reduced. The only thing is that these frequencies can penetrate walls from their source locations e.g. next door neighbour's wi fi router or a mobile telephone mast.

I've been under a good deal of stress recently. I have had TMJ for years, tension headaches for the past year (feels like there's a vice on my head with 1 end on each temple), and only this past week have I had this temple thing. I'm not sure I'd say it felt like bugs, but the bubbles sound right. It started when I was in a really bad argument with someone and was rather infuriated and my temple has been bothering me every day since, on and off. The worst is when it's at night and keeps me from sleeping. It's pretty uncomfortable. I'm definitely happy that it sounds like something that is more annoying than dangerous! I'm fairly sure it twitches enough to be visible. I've tried massaging it and relaxing all of my facial muscles (it's only the left temple so far), but it doesn't seem to help at all. Only time seems to help, and not that much.

How long-term is this for all of you? Anyone have it stop reoccurring?

I had TMJ and went to a chiropractor. They have an instrument that helps to realign your jaw, and it works. You need to go in for a few sessions or more, but it is not that expensive.
