My old college teacher, who happens to be my neighbor as well, was just told that she has the agressive form of Multiple Sclerosis... I am so very sorry, and she is such a sweet old thing too! Is there any therapy for this form of MS? How long before she will be severely handicapped?

Your acquaintance probably has what is referred to as progressive multiple sclerosis. What this means is that there will be no periods in which the disease goes into remission and she will have a rest from MS. There are numerous drugs on the market, but as there is no cure for MS at the moment, all these do is ease the pain and perhaps slow down the development of MS. It is difficult to stay when MS will progress to the next stage - it can take many years, or happen much more quickly.
