It is sad, yet soo good to see so many of us experiencing the same or similar things! I have been dealing with this for over a year now, and I have had MRI's and X-rays, Chiropractic, PT, Pain Meds, etc. Has anybody gotten anywhere with this as far as a Diagnosis? Somebody mentioned a clot, that's kinda freaky and odd. Wondering if anybody has had circulation symptoms, like cold feet, tingles, light-headed, etc.?Heat has helped me, on the back/neck, shoulder, and even the rib cage. Nice to finally have found people who can understand.

Yes I know the problem you discuss. It has to do with your bones not meshing up correctly. You have all been persecuted by people who you incorrectly respect. Stretch, all of you. Stretch. Alexander Technique yourselves upright. It will take 2-5 years to get your body adjusted. I know. I had to work at it that long. Also, do not listen to the enemy tell you that you are not worth this change. That you are narcisstic. It is my perseption that people in this boat are so far down that they percieve that to change to normal would be narcisstic. I know, I've been there. You'll need some spiritual help to get you through this. Shoulders should be at the level of your chin. Stretch, imperceptiably, stretch. Stretch at the check out counter, stretch at your desk. Stretch in bed. Stretch when you make love. Stetch when you don't. Stretch. Be like a Christmas tree without the baggage ornaments. Drop the baggage. Get a new lifestyle, because that it what it takes.

Symptoms of Tietze Syndrome
The problem is marked by chest tightness and sharp pain that worsens when you move or breathe deeply. The pain may spread to the arm and may occur in more than one place.
In the beginning the pain is usually worse and it hurts to breathe, wear a bra or move suddenly. Eventually the pain subsides to a dull, constant ache or tenderness in the ribs. The cause of this condition is usually unknown but it can be the result of trauma to the rib cage, a viral infection or part of an inflammatory disease. The symptoms usually disappear spontaneously within eight weeks but sometimes it takes up to a year and in some individuals it remains a chronic condition. When it is a chronic condition the pain seems to wax and wane and any sudden movement or lifting of heavy objects could make the condition worse.
Some sufferers start thinking that there is something wrong with their lungs when they start finding difficulty in breathing. However there is no reason for alarm. This happens because due to the swelling around the ribs, the lungs cannot expand fully

I can simpathize with all of you, I have been dealing with my problems for about 5 years. I have had MRI'S, had all the heart test, had blood work done, been to the chiropracter, and done physical therapy, still no answers. It is very frustrating and it is a little depressing to be uncomfortable every minute of every day. I do not sleep well because being still causes back to be worse, and when I wake in the morning I get out of bed like I'm 90 years old, which needless to say causes me to be grouchy and irritable most of the time. I no longer go on long trips in the car because I am miserable sitting still for long periods of time. I have never worked at a desk all day but my problems seem to have started about the time I started working out regularly. My spine feels like it pops between my shoulder blades up to my neck and even in my ribcage, and sometimes in my chest or collar bone it feels like and it pops really loud. I also get numbness or tingling in my arms when sleeping with my arms up above my face. Good luck yo you all.

:-( I have also had the above problem with the pain between shoulder blades and back to front center chest pain/pressure always being the worst when I wake in the morning. My breathing makes it worse upon rising but, subsides as the day wears on worsening as the night approches and starts all over again in the morning. Advil takes the edge off but, only lasts maybe an hour or so. The info here at least let me know, Well, Im not alone.

i also have tightness between my shoulder blades and both arms.. it comes and goes but is generally there all day

but i do not have any sternum or back problems as most of you have, but since you have mentioned prednisone i think you might want to research about adrenal fatigue, i also did not have anxiety before this started happening and now i do also.

upon alot of research about adrenal fatigue i believe my adrenals aren't up to par.

and the symptoms of anxiety and muscle tightness could be explained because adrenaline is released when cortisol is not available as a last resort.

this may seem left field to alot of you guys but just a thought.

I am 27 and i have had this problem off and on for several years. I have had anxiety attacks and was put on Sertraline (zoloft) however, i got over them and stopped taking the medicine. I still find myself popping my sternum all the time. I think that all the anxiety makes me tense up those muscles in particular and i cannot seem to heal it 100%. It comes and goes now. Mostly when it is cold outside or when i do alot of physical activity. I have had all of the blood tests and heart monitors, EKGs and nothing showed up. I don't exactly feel pain but more of a feeling like my neck and shoulders are out of place. Sometimes it is hard to breathe when my ribs lock up. I would suggest a chiropractor. I have seen one in the past and it helped. If not then try an anti-anxiety or muscle relaxer 8-| to help relax you until it heals.

Hey everyone, I have had back pain for too long to remember. It comes and goes and for the past 4 months it decided to stay for a longer visit. I would love to go to a chiropractor, but I live in Germany and its just not the same. I can crack my back as well sometimes by pushing on my chest. But my low back is all messed as well.

What I find that helps is streching the ham strings. Each leg 8 x 20 seconds.

Also sleeping on a firm service helps me out a lot. We have a really nice and expensive California King bed, but my wife will argue with me for days saying that the bed is not the problem. I would recommend at least look into what you are sleeping on. Try sleeping on the floor with some matts for a couple of nights. Sounds strange, but it helps me.

Good luck

Well, here I am also afflicted with this. I have had blood tests, heart tests, and been in the emergency room 2x.
I'm 48, and in OK health. Don't drink, smoke, etc. and I do somewhat regular exercise.
This has ruined my life. I can't sleep, concentrate at work, or otherwise live a normal life.
Seems very scary and sad so many have this and have no answers.
Lord, I need to find a way to get over this. I currently take Vicodin and Soma when needed, but it's just a band-aid.
I'll keep watching here, and I'm going in to my doc again to see if she has other ideas.
Best to all - back soon... :'(

for the lot of you, it sounds as though heating the area helps relieve your pain. this indicates a musclular problem because as you heat the muscles, they relax and allow proper functioning of your thoracic spine. what i would try, is foam rolling the areas that feel like they are causing the pain and doing some exercises to see how this changes your condition. with any treatment, you should be feeling better within a week or two, so if you aren't, try something else or change the exercises your using (all exercises are not created equal). i would recommend exercises like rows, pull ups, Is Ys and Ts, uppercuts, push ups (also on a medicine ball would be good), Core worK: planks, side planks, bird dog. correct form is paramount, so do your research and don't half ass it. you could also visit a good physical therapist, there are plenty of bad ones, so just b/c one couldn't help you doesn't mean another one can't. the best ones are typically 5-10 years out of school (they remember the most) and have a DPT (doctorate in physical therapy) and possibly have the OCS (orthopaedics) specialty.

I also get someting very similiar but I have additional symptoms. The doctor also said that I had anxiety (this was over 10 years ago) I stopped going since they were always too dumb to figure out what was really wrong with me.

I have figured it out on my own. One of my problems is parasites. This might be what you guys are experiencing. And since doctors are ignorant about parasites this could also explain why they use anxiety as an excuse.

Best of luck to everyone here.

I just recently (within last week or two) began suffering from the pain between the shoulder blades and tightness in middle of chest. Mine starts sometime after I've gone to sleep and worsens as the night goes on. When I wake, it hurts to breathe, but the pain usually is gone within 15 to 30 minutes after waking. I have had stomach issues for as long as I can remember (I am a 43 yr old female). I also find that if I sleep with my arms above my head, it worsens. My stomach problems have worsened along with this new found pain. Severe heartburn and gas causing tightness in the chest area. Can anyone explain why sleeping and stomach issues would cause this type of pain?

For me, middle back, upper back, and neck pain are associated with body symmetry and muscle turgor, that are affected by neurological stimulation and androgen effects consequent to orgasm. Synapse signals originating from the prostrate include, and affect left and right symmetry within the body. In other words, ejaculation release from the right or left side affects neural symmetry and localized androgens. Immediately after climax, muscles relax and the localized affects of muscle strain are diminished through a lack of androgens, however soon after (a day and more) the muscles of the body begin to recoupe their tension and the disparity of strain creates pain from offset vertebrate.

Amongst other methods, temporary relief may be accomplished by stimulating alternate symmetry without climax. Stimulation of the penis to erection after sex to reduces the incidence of pain. Rectifying disparities in symmetry, even through alternate symmetry climax, or through stimulation without climax, may increase discomfort as the body's morphology on the lesser sized symmetry is compelled to grow relative to the naturally larger sized symmetry.

Such affects may be associated with strokes.

I too have had a problem with shoulder to shoulder tightness. I am a 51 year old female and have had two heart attacks, both of which had the same exact symptoms. Those two were definately heart attacks. My most recent felt the same but all tests came back negative for a heart attack and a heart cath was done as well. I might add I could not function, the tightness was horrible. I have since had x-rays that show severe degenerative disc disease in my upper spine and neck. I just had an MRI, no results yet, but my Dr.'s theory is my axis and axle are damaged. In between those are your nerves that go to all points of your body. Her thoughts are that because of the deterioration it could be pinching on nerves, one that goes to the heart, and others causing all this to happen. Once I find out the rest of the story I will let you know if I get an answer to the problem or if I am at a dead end.
