I'm a 20 year old female, diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) last year. I have irregular periods, sometimes every 2 months, sometimes every 9 months - it varies. My BMI is around 24 - I'm trying to lose a few pounds to help the symptoms, but I'm not overweight.

For almost 3 weeks now I've had tender breasts, I noticed it getting worst last week when I was driving & they were in agony on a bumpy road!! It started in 1 but spread to both and at the weekend it had spread to my right arm and around that side of my back. I'm still slightly achey but it's not as bad now and I've checked them over, nothing else has changed. I've also become increasingly hungry over the past 2 weeks, it doesn't matter what I eat - I'm just not full! I'm also very very tired... it could be because I had a busy few weeks & late nights over the weekend, but I've tried to catch up on my sleep and this hasn't made any difference. Went to bed fully clothed last night & didn't wake up till morning - I was exhausted. I also went through a phase of being very light headed for a few days.

I did wonder if I was pregnant, as I haven't been on the pill for nearly 1 year and am sexually active with my Fiance of whom I live with. But the last time we'd had sex was just before I had my last period (which was normal) & then a week before all of these symptoms. I've done 2 tests as well - both negative.

So confused & hate going to my Doctors as they're always rushed. Any advice would be great x

First of all you need to find a good doctor. If your doctor is rushed they will not listen to you fully and give you the attention you need. Also finding a gynecologist with an ultrasound machine in office is a must if your doesnt have one. If you like your doctor and do not want to change doctors, during your next appointment when they start to rush you need to bring his attention to the problem and make him/her listen to you and your problems.

Since you are having unprotected sex there is a chance of pregnancy. Was the week before all of your symptoms around two weeks after the first day of your last menstrual cycle? Even though you have PCOS and irregular periods it is very possible to still conceive. Did you take the pregnancy test in the morning with your first urine of the day? If not try retesting using your first urine because it contains the highest amount of the hcg hormone making your home pregnancy test more accurate. You said you were trying to lose a few pound. Sometimes when you start exercising and losing weight it can trigger your body to ovulate regularly even though your periods are sometimes irregular. If you keep getting negative home pregnancy test but your period is late you may want to consider getting the blood pregnancy test drawn because it is more accurate. Good Luck

My last menstrual cycle was 6 weeks ago, so the symptoms began about 4 weeks after & I've done a test on the 4th and 5th week - both negative

I suggest going to your doctor for a blood pregnancy test, thyroid test, and hormone test. I was reading an article about PCOS and in some women it can cause you to get false negatives on home pregnancy test. Good Luck
