I'm 22 years old and never had regular periods but this time is much worse for me, my period or so i think its my period has now lasted 5 months non stop bleeding and I've been to UMC hospital and they checked me out but they couldnt tell me what was wrong I dont always have pain but occasionally I do, but it just comes and goes, yesterday I felt an unusual amount of wetness so I went to use the bathroom and next thing I see is a huge jelly like blood clot dark brown surrounding my tampon completely and then i can start to feel blood clots falling out of me into the toilet, I am sexually active with my husband and we are trying to have a baby and have been trying for 3 years now so we never use protection, everytime we become intamate we think its one step closer to achieving our goal and getting pregnant but it never happens, I think its all taking a really big toll on my body though, in 2009 I was rushed to the hospital and almost died and had to have surgery because I had a tubal pregnancy and they had to remove my tube, I healed fine and we didnt give up on trying for a baby, my periods would take a few months to come but would never last this long Never 5 months, Ive been getting lots of head aches and back pain and pain under my rib cage, sometimes I get pain in both sides of my lower stomach, my taste buds have even changed and I crave alot of stuff, I take quiz tests to see if I have any pregnancy symptoms and I seem to have alot but urinary tests dont work on me, and I cant just go to the Hospital any time I feel like it. Im just really scared cause I've never heard of anyones menstral period lasting 5 months. and I hope theres a cure for it, please anyone if you know of something I can do to make it stop please tell me what to do? I'm so tired of bleeding it's taking over my body and I'm scared its more serious then it seems. please help me?

Did you take a pregnancy test this time?
From your description you may have had a miscarriage. The "jelly" being the mucous plug that closes off the cervix when you are pregnant. The blood clots are also a clue.
At this point I'd like you to follow up with your doctor, just to see if everything is OK. You should not be bleeding every day for 5 months.

I've been suffering the same problem as you have. I've have been heavily bleeding since April, I've been taking Tranexamic Acid Tablets perscribed by my doctor to try make my bleeding regular. I have suffered irregular bleeding for 6 years now and this is the worse it has ever been. I too am 22 and have constantly been seeking medical advice for what I am suffering. I had a laparoscopy in 2006 because the doctor thought I may be suffering endometriosis as i was bleeding irregular and would bleed brownish-red ever so often. No endometriosis detected. I suffered very painful cramping which in severe cases brings me to tears. I would see my doctor, go to free clinics, seek information online, i've seen quiet afew Gynocologists and result is no one knows what the problem is. I've have swabs for STDs, swabs for cancer, scans, biopsies i've lost track of how many medications i've been on to try sort this problem out.
I suffer the heavy bleeding with the clotting, sometimes the clots can be so big it could fit in my palm. Since bleeding I haven't been sexually active unless I have a small break which can last about half a day with no bleeding. Me and my partner have been wanting children aswell but it's unlikely with this condition at the moment.
This type of condition has similar syptoms to pregnancy when it's a no bleed time. Before this I would have every 2-3 years 2-3months no period at all, I would have pregnancy symptoms but the test was always negative. It's heartbreaking always seeing a negative.
I suffer stomach pains, back pain, headaches to migrains, cramping all over my body and there is just so much blood that leaves my body.
What I have been told:
Ok so a part from all the horrors i've been through, I could have PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian sympdrome) which could be why am not getting pregnant as there is a blockage (most the pain is in right side where blockage could be).
May not be ovulating or ovulating with periods. So need to be in a healthy weight range and find out ovulating cycle.
Fibroids in uterus. I got told that it could be hormones feeding the fibroids causing all the continuous bleeding. So with being sexually active the fibroids are having a smorgusboard hence the bleeding.
That's all I have at the moment, i'm trying to get in a healthy weight range before I get more tests done to me, but it doesn't help when the body bloats. With my experience i've actually cut my eating and only eat half my dinner (I haven't been eating breakfast or lunch). I've gone off some seafood and some meat (not sure is it's to do with the iron tablets i'd been put on since this happened).

Thankyou so much for replying back to me and it makes me feel much better to hear that I am not alone in this, as i sit here and read your symptoms it sure seems like everything that you've written is exactly what's happening to me, I've also had so many tests done and doctors still dont know whats wrong with me, I am to also trying to create a better eating habit and lose some weight to get my body into a healthy stage and maybe and hopefully the bleeding and pain will just go away on its own, I understand what you mean when you say the bleeding stops for like half a day it's happended to me to I then get my hopes up and think the bleeding with stop but then a little while later it starts right back up again. I sometimes get the pain in my left or right ovaries and even under my rib cage but its hard to explain what the feeling is but im sure you can relate to what im saying, It didnt come to my attention about my eating problem until u mentioned that you havent been eating breakfast or lunch wich is really weird cause I also can go a whole day without breakfast or lunch or anything to drink all day but when dinner comes around I feel like im starving and there will be times I feel like im so dehidrated that I go crazy just for a sip of water and I thought it was normal but as i think about it more it dosent seem right. well after i had my tubal pregnancy in 2009 the doctor told me that i only had 1 tube to work with to get pregnant again and that it was a 50% chance I could eaither get pregnant or have another tubal pregnancy , it scares me sometimes cause I keep thinking all the times my husband and I have sex and trying to make a baby all that is just gathering up inside me and not going anywhere so it might be whats causing something to go wrong but I'm just not sure :( thank you for responding back to me you've really given me alot to think about and I hope you know that your not alone in this situation eaither :) ...........

No I didnt take a pregnancy test this time its because the blood and the urine on a urine pregnancy test always says negative or it wouldnt give me an answer, I actually dont have a doctor as of right now although I no I should get one its just I would have to go through a huge process of getting social services to help me out with a medical card but they wont unless I have a doctors note saying i have an appointment but I cant get a doctors note because I dont have a doctor, its really confusing I no but times are tough, plus I thought when you have a misscarage there would be alot of pain when its happening when i seen the blood clots there was only a slight sharp pain on the inside of my vagina for a split second so thats what made me think everything was ok, is there still a chance i could be having a misscarage without all the pain because there is still alot of blood clots ?

Helpme, you do need to see a doctor. Bleeding, "alot of clots", and the jelly like substance need to be evaluated.

I'm hoping that losing weight to get in healthy weight range will finally end this suffering of constant blood loss. I feel the pain in my ovary areas as well mainly my right side, it can get so painful that i've gone to the hospital just to get some relief, sometimes the pain goes through my back, spine and breasts.
Yes I really don't like it when the bleeding stops and your hopeful it's ended and then your straight back to bleeding.
I can't say for sure whether my eating habit has changed due to this or something else as i'm hoping to see my doctor for a referal for Stomach Cancer (as it is genetic in my family). I can however say that I used to be a big lover of food especially meat but now I can't seem to keep down seafood such as mussels and oysters and can only eat some of my dinner and feel ill when eating some meat. I feel dehydrated all the time, i'm constantly seeking fluid.
I get really tired which could be due to being iron deficiant, but i'm always tired.

As I am suffering similar to Helpme, can I just say that when I mentioned this to my doctor or nurse they put me on different types of birthcontrol pills to try regulate the bleeding, even though I had told them I was trying for a family. It was a temporary thing which did not work and I continued to bleed and suffer giant bloodclots. I'm on Tranexemic Acid which I believe my body is resisting it to help me.
