Okay, so for anyone out there that is planning on having a tonsillectomy done I can tell you the agony you will go through. To be honest I'm only on day 7. Anyways whenever you have it done, the night before the procedure you are not permitted to eat or drink anything past 12:00. Personally, I would suggest you eat your favorite meal and dessert the day before surgery because during recovery you-well I mean I didn't- will not eat any "hard" or "rough" foods. The ENTs will tell you to have a "soft" food diet. Anyways, the morning of your surgery or whatever time you have your surgery just make sure you don't eat or drink anything because you could throw up while have your surgery. Okay, so whenever you arrive for your surgery they will check your vitals, have you change, prep you, ask you questions, and just go over the instructions you shall take during your recovery. Then you will go to the OR and get your tonsils removed. Then you wake up and your really not in any pain because of all the medication you are on. In the hospital they will have you drinking fluids and eating ICEES. Then it was 2 hours for me before I went home and I slept the whole way home. Once I got home I took my medicine and got gaterade and just drank that and feel asleep. Let me tell you it is in you best benefit to stay hydrated or else you will have to got to the ER to get an IV. Like I said the first day is actually not that bad. I actually ate mashedpotatoes my first day because I wasn't in that much pain. STAY HYDRATED!!!!! Next day, day 3 and day for were the absolute WORST EVER. I've never been in sooo much pain before in my life. I've even had a ruptured appendix and that is not anywhere close to the pain of a tonsillectomy. But like I said stay hydrated try to eat if you can and stay updated on you meds because those will be you absolute best friend during the whole thing. Let me tell you how bad the pain is though, it seriously feels like you are eating a meat grinder, or as if you are eating large and small pieces of glass, or if there are little knives stabbing the back of your throat. I can't describe how bad the pain is. But day 5,6,7 is when the pain starsubside. BUT something else much worse-personally for me anyways- starts to happen. On day 5 I started getting this absolute Nasty taste in my mouth, and really bad bad breath. I literally taste like decaying animal in your mouth it is truly disgusting. Also I got like this mucous stuff if my throat that also taste like dead animal. It's soo GROSS. The scabs that form where your tonsil were once places are really gross as well. My started a green color and now today they have changed to like a really gross yellow brownish color, and it looks like there are things stuck in it. I think I'm just going to stop looking at it. Oh and for the bad breathe and nasty taste in my mouth i just been sucking on mints and other hard candys. Now I'm just waiting for my scabs to fall off and for the pain and all the agony to come to a complete stop. I will update whenever this happens, we'll see what tomorrow brings, best to luck to all going through and planning on going through this. :)
