Hello everyone on this form. I have been a type-2 diabetic for 7 years now. I was able to maintain easily my sugars for the first couple of years just with diet and pills. But as it is the usual case, my disease was getting worse and eventually I had to start using insulin. I am very adept at using it and have no problems regarding it. I use insulin after breakfast and use another dose after lunch. My question relates to use of insulin while travelling abroad. I have been saving up for a couple of years to be able to go and visit Australia and New Zealand and am planning to do a 1 month trip. I will be taking all the precautions and of course, I’ll take more than enough insulin while to cover my needs during my stay. My question is related to the storage. Shall I keep it anywhere special? I am afraid since it is summer in Australia right now – does anyone think all the heat there will affect the quality and damage it? Has anybody any relevant experience?

Insulin should be stored as instructed on the label, meaning it should be in a dry and not hot/cold place. You can have your insulin your hotel room or apartment and you will be more than fine. Make sure to check the expiration date before going abroad. I would suggest to avoid taking our insulin to the beach or expose directly to sun, since it may have negative impacts on the quality of insulin. Best, Tom
