You can get pregnant at any time of your cycle. However, chances are less likely on your period. What happens is you have an egg waiting to be fertilized, but since it doesn't get fertilized, it gets released along with the menses surrounding the vaginal wall. So there's a good chance the egg had already been released. Since it was your first day, there's also a chance it wasn't yet.
