Hey,
This topic has been seriously helpful to give me something to go on. I had my first Bladder infection way back in April, then had kidney stones a month later (twice in a row) right after my period. For a good month and a half I relaxed and had no pain. I was worried it would start up again around my two kidney stone free periods, but it didn't.
Now, the last two months, I've had a mild 'pressure' and pain around my urethra. I had first thought it was my vagina, but after paying attention to where the pain was originating from, it seemed to come from there. I'm going to cut pop back out of my diet. I had been off of it for a good year, and only recently started drinking it (off and on) as of late.
I actually don't have a family doctor. The town I live in has many doctors, but all have four year waiting lists. So I have always been going to the walk in clinic and emergency room at the Hospital.. So I can't constantly make appointments.
I'm just starting secondary school for the first time after a four year absence from High School. I've lived in this town for a good eight years with no problems before in my health. So I don't know what's going on all of a sudden. I have no more stress in my life than before now that I think about it.
Any idea what it might be for me? I don't suffer severe pain, sex isn't really painful either actually. It's just a constant mild pressure and pain, which doesn't lessen or grow in severity when I urinate.
It does however, I seem to find it more...severe (though not too much) at night.
Any help is seriously appreciated. I'm not a fan of doctors, so I like having an idea of what to tell them to look for so I don't have to go back.

hello
after 25 yrs of this awful life changing condition (since 15yrs old) and many many cysto-scopes, antibiotics, muscle relaxants and yes...anti depressants!!! i have had to find my own ways of coping.
Sadly i have given up on finding a complete cure, however i have become an expert on symptom control.
I find that certain things can trigger an attack; intercourse, alcohol (wine specifically), spicy food and yes....stress can bring on an attack quite quickly.
I can not live without my hot water bottle, absorbant sanitary protection and a regiem of analgesia ranging from anti immflamitories (NSAID'S), paracetamol and codiene based pain control.
In addition I found Ranitidine 150mg stat dose helps neutralise the urine so it doesn't burn so much. Buscopan 20mg taken for the first 24 hrs helps also.
I use the sanitary pads, not due to any incontinence, but purely so i do not have to keep getting up to the loo every 5 minuets only to pass a drop or two. By remianing still the nere receptors are not aggrivated so easily. Place a peice of tissue soaked in cold water just inside the vulva over the urehra and this helps stop the burning and the spasms. I then take my anti inflamitory and pain medicine along with muscle relaxant and acid reducing Ranitidine.
It is very important to remember to drink at least a pint of water every hour for the first 6 hrs and as much as you can after this time. I keep a huge bottle of water by my side.
The hot water bottle provides instant relief when placed on my tummy or between my legs.
Before taking any medicine it is paramount that you discuss with your doctor and make sure it is safe for you to take.
I hope this helps/. x

Well, I visited my first American doctor and all the tests came back negative. All I know is that this pain is DEFINATELY my urethra. He suggested that maybe the urethra is too small and refered me to a urologist after charging me hundreds of dollars for the poorest medical visit I've ever had.
I've had this problem for 9 years so I'm going to stick it out for another 6 months and then see a urologist in the UK. I'm bet is on polyps for now, even though a urologist here told me that he'd never heard of polyps of the urethra. I haven't the faintest clue what could be causing he awful pain otherwise.
I've been trying various things with my diet again recently, I cut out nuts and pretty much most fruit (all citrus) and stay well away from soda and caffeine.
..but I think it takes a while for this to leave your system so even if you've made dietry changes, you might not feel any relief for a few weeks.
I'm feeling much better than I was when I made my last post in this thread.
If you end up eating acidic foods (spicy, caffinated, carbonated, citrus etc) try taking "Alka Balance" or another type of PH balancing capsule.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Any other suggestions for muscle relaxants would be greatly appreciated!

i have have small tinges/spasms of pain ever since i had a real bad uti. i definitley notice caffeine and acidic things makes it hurt. i believe that because of the previous infection, it has made that area more sensitive and suseptable, especially because thats where waste is passed thru.
i'm getting off of horomonal birth control because i think it not only adds to the problem, but it messes with my emotional states pretty severely (mental health) our bodies are just more sensitive than we think. i think the real answer is to start realizing what we're eating and allowing doctors to put in our bodies.
i also think i may need to do a cleansing fast to clear my body of toxins that may have built up. there are colon cleanses to you can get at health food stores and it helps cleanse bad stuff that has been stored in your body for years, but wasn't able to make it out. sometimes this happens because we our bodies are constantly digesting and never get a chance to expell toxins and stored up wastes.
there is so much to be explored and remembered by eating fresh fruits and vegetables. and using natural herbs instead of prescribtion drugs.
i highly recommend spending more time learning about these things.
good luck!

I have been searching to see if anyone else has been having this issue. I am having issues when I urinate. It burns something terrible in my urethral area only. I got down there with the mirror to see if I noticed anything and it did look a lil swollen and irritated. I have had this issue for the past two weeks now just out of the blue. I went to the clinic to have a check up done because I wanted to find out if I had an UTI, but they said my urine was fine and that they didn't see much of anything else wrong besides the redness and the slight swelling (one nurse practitioner did say she saw some polyps which could be HPV). I think this all started because I have a new sexual partner who happens to be well endowed, the last time we has sex three condoms broke and he used one of those flavored kind. I am very sensitive in my vaginal area and I told him this before we engaged in sex that I prefer Lifestyle or Durex condoms, so I'm wondering if the flavored condom has caused some of the problem. I'm also wondering if the condoms broke due to lack of lubrication and the extra friction has caused me to tear in the urethral area. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

hi ...
nice to meet all of you who are suffering from the same symptoms ..
I had 3 UTI's in 5 months ... I treated the first attack with antibiotics .. and started to feel better after 5 days ..
the problem is that since I had the first UTI, I developed a continuous burn/pain in the urethra ... it starts right away after peeing .. and last for one hour or so .... the only thing that makes me feel better is drinking water and having a full bladder ... otherwise I'll be crying in pain ....
The new thing started before a week, when I developed a tingling sensation in my urethra and the close (region) and it feels that orgasm but its not ... I feel better when walking .. but if I am sitting I feel this awful thing the whole time ...
I went to a GYN .. he told me that it might be an STD and took a vaginal swab .... I wont know the result until the 28th, but I am sure it will come back negative !!!!
I don't know what to do .... I am so depressed and my marriage life is affected by this ... I don't want to have this pain for my whole life ... I've really suffered enough ....
Let us know if you came to a useful solution ...
God bless all of us .. !

I would also like to thank the person that posted about the tea tree oil. I was a little hesitant at first, but I figured it couldn't get any worse so I tried it. It has now been two days and I feel great!!! It doesn't burn any longer when I urinate and I don't have that stinging sensation left afterwards either. It did feel a little odd down there after I applied it, but it soon settled and I tell you it seems like a miracle. Thank you!

From reading all the posts here, you all seem lost. I have been having bad pain in my vagina, pee hole and pelvic area for about 7 years now. Just this past April, I did some research and took it to my doctor. He did a pelvic exam on me and officially diagnosed me with Pudendal Neuralgia. It is a chronic nerve pain condition in the pelvis which has the following symptoms:
Painful sex
Hurts when sitting
Pain only relieved by sitting on the toilet
Painful urination
Painful Bowel movements
Constant dull pain in the entire pelvic area.
Goto http://www.prolonews.com/pelvic_floor_dysfunction.htm to look at Pelvic Floor dysfunctions or http://www.pudendalhelp.com/ to look at Pudendal Neuralgia. For you guys, you might want to look at http://www.nva.org/
It is just something to concider!

I’m a 45 year old female and I’ve had this problem off and on for 4 years. My problem is similar, but I feel better after urinating. My symptoms are burning itch. During a Pap smear exam the Doctor touched my urethra and pain shot through my legs and abdomen. The doctor/HMO treats it like a UTI and proscribe antibiotic. It comes back during my menstrual period. I'm looking for a provision to stop this from reoccurring. Could it be connected with High Blood pressure medication?

Im 20 and ive been having problems with a burning urethra when urinating for about 2 weeks. Ive been researching and came up with many doctors ofter get confused with uti and prostate glands. The symptoms for prostate glands are exactly the same as having a blatter infection. Have your doctor check out if you have some inflammation in your prostate gland. This can be resolved with simple antibiotics. I hope this helped and we are all together in this.

I am a 25 year old female who has been experiencing the same problem everyone has mentioned above.. Reacurring uti pain in urethra pain during intercouse and pain with no bacterial infection. It first started my freshman year of college. Everytime I went to the doctor I was told it was a uti or bladdre irritation if no infection.I went to the bathroom so much it was ridiculous I went to the gyn for the pain during ibtercourse and was told everything was ok.. It was all in my head I was told.this went on for like 5 years Now I am under the care of a urologist wgo found I have urethral diverticulum which is a pouch or sac which develops on the urethra. Not many doctors are aware of this and it is easily mis diagnosed.I am on 3 courses of antiabiotic because the sac is infected that is why It hurts during intrcourse. I hope this helps some of you and please don't give up or feel helpless be your own doctor!! Research!

I posted a year ago or so about the tea tree oil. I have had this problem for going on for way to long. I have just figured out in the past week that it is the result of an overgrowth of candida albicans. I really suggest that you guys look this up. I have been on a carb free diet for a week and my urethra hasn't hurt in a week, which is absolutely amazing. check it out.

I am having a lot of the same problems. I am going on 4years now of dealing with this non stop pain. I have been to 6 doctors. And it was my GYN. that helped me the most. My pain started after I had my right ovary removed, it was the size of 1.5 grapefruit. Well, when this was taken out, everything shifted internally and the pain started. I thought I was having UTI's like crazy, and they tested me for IC, and everything else that you can think of. They said that I have nerve damage to this area and will have to do the best I can. What has helped me the most is using ANALPRAM 1% cream in the intravagial area, and SARNA ULTRA on the outer part of the vagina. They have numbing effects and you are able to enjoy intercourse, and other activities more without having all of this pain. I am also on Lyrica. And when I am having a difficult time with my bladder pain, or urethra pain I take Pyridium. The only thing for me is that as soon as the numbing medicine wears off, then I need to quickly put some more on or I am about to be in tears from all of the pain. At times I have "flare ups" where nothing helps at all and the pain is a 10 out of 10 and I sit on ice to completely numb it all, put the creams on, take ULTRAM and try to relax. The urine during those times feels like pure acid. It is horrible. I have not worn jeans in 4years and have to wear cotton underwear only with a small liner. I am not able to get too hot, and I have to really watch my activities that may cause me to bend a lot, or get in positions that puts pressure in this area. I have to put the creams on after each time I urinate or have activity. Using dye free and perfume free laundry soap and baby wipes really helps. Loose clothing made a difference like sweat suits, etc. It is not easy dealing with this, and I pray everyday that God will bring the healing. I still have faith that I will get better or the medical world will be able to help all of us that deal with this condition. Until that happens, we can only do the best that we can.

As a chronic kidney stone former, I have always been told that blood in the urine, is NOT a symptom of bladder infections, it is a symptom of stones or something more serious.
